I don’t know about this case, but the way many obsessive stalkers work is that if the woman merely acknowledges their existence, it sets the stalker off.

Excellent observation.

It is entirely possible that he, like a maniac I attended college with, fell for a girl whom he began to worship - and then when he had a chance to actually converse with her she was nice but standoffish and completely oblivious to his fixation.

He followed her around, stole her things, broke into her apartment, harassed her friends, until he was arrested for slashing her boyfriend's tires.

It's sad that some people are such losers the only thing they can accomplish is causing other people pain and suffering.

Exactly,
All she had to do was be kind to him and he was obsessed.

You are so correct. All she had to do was glance at him; say hi in passing; and, in his ego-centric disturbed mind, they were in 'a relationship.'

Stalkers are experts at manipulation...they are so centered upon thier fantasy world that they (to the police) can make the 'stalkee' look like the 'crazy one' which adds to the torment that the victim goes thru.

This whole situation is beyond horrific.
