Her smile shines out of the pictures posted on the Facebook website under the title of “Why Emily Hilscher was cooler than me”.
The girl who is believed to have obsessed the Virginia Tech killer, Cho Seung-Hui - and may have been his first victim - had a lot of friends. More than 200 had posted tributes on the website today.
Ella Miller, an old class mate, wrote: “I remember her untieing my shoes with a fork, when we played in the woods around her house in the club house, going to the beach with her and her family. Spending the night at her house and staying up late playing cards, her teaching me how to play the saxaphone, summer crab feasts, swimming in the river, jumping on trampolines in the rain, backstreet boys concert, her putting worms on her nose lol...and it wasn’t just her personality - she was gorgeous!!”
Photographs on the same website show a pretty young woman, preparing for a toga party, going on an 8th grade field trip, and arriving at her high school prom. Described as a straight “A” student, Ms Hilscher, 18, spent most of her free time horse riding and hoped to become a vet.
”I’m interested in pretty much everything,” she wrote on her MySpace page, in which she refers to herself as “The Pixie”.
She added: “My friends are what keeps me smiling. I’m into snowboard, riding and music. Give me something I can bang my head to or dance like crazy, and I’m all over it.”
Ms Hilscher had met a new boyfriend, about whom she gushed about on her page. “I live, love and get booted but eventually that will change...I now have a wonderful guy who is hopefully going to change all of that.” College friends said her new boyfriend had just dropped her off before the massacre.
Ms Hilscher, a first year student who was studying animal and poultry sciences and equine science, was the next-door neighbour of Ryan Clark, a residential adviser at the dormitory where the shooting started.
It is believed that a morning argument in the dormitory at the Virginia Tech campus led Cho to kill the teenager and Mr Clark who had attempted to come to her aid.
Her grandmother, Merle Hilscher, 71, described the tight bond Emily had with big sister Erica, 21, who attended a nearby university. “They were very close all their lives,” she said.
“Now one of them is ended, but we have to carry on.”
On her Facebook tribute page today, Cody Yager wrote: “Emily was one of my first friends here at [Virginia] Tech. How could such a beautiful soul be removed from our lives?”
Will Sonnett from Rappahannock County High School in rural Virginia, said: “Emily Hilscher was cooler than me because she could make friends with a glance and a smile. She never hesitated to make someone, anyone feel at home with kindness and an open mind. Thanks for being awesome to lame little 8th graders, and for making stupid computer classes unforgettable.”
On the page when you click “View My: Pics” (Under the photo of her peaking out from behind her arm) it comes up with a page that has a list of Cool New People. The first time I clicked, I got a picture of Christopher Dodd and a link to his “page”. The second time I went back, there was a link to John Edwards and his “page”. Third time.... Joe Biden.
Similar? She has blue eyes and is light complected.. he has dark black eyes and is asian?????? I see nothing alike in them. She looked to be a happy friendly person. He looks like he hates life and anyone else who loved life.
Can you image a Republican doing something like that to capitalize on this? Like Bush’s picture showing up. I think not.
I meant similar looking in terms of age.

For some reason when I woke up this morning, my conscience returned to this thread and the statements posted by “Vision” yesterday (Tuesday, April 17th, 2007). I felt like I had to drop in again on this thread in order to see how it has been progressing.
Unfortunately, as I expected and dreaded it would, it seems as if “Vision” hasn’t heeded the consensus of opinion of fellow Freepers here (in addition to the warning from a Free Republic Moderator) that his baiting of various participants is becoming problematic and, quite honestly, a bit disturbing. Folks, just ignore this person and if he continues to post “flames” or “swipes” at others, do the right thing and report it to the moderator. It seems that the threat of being booted from the forum or possibly given a “time out” of several days (weeks?) will be the only thing that will counteract this behaviour.
As I said in a previous post from yesterday, pray for everyone hurt by this tragedy and please include “Vision” in your prayers as well. This individual is in need of some type of help/therapy and will hopefully do a bit of soul searching as to why he is behaving in this manner. What alarms me is that there is some type of warped satisfaction that he is deriving from all of this.

You’re trying to insinuate that somehow the young woman was the trigger of these murders, and you infer that from one photo of the young woman, yet you’re calling others insane?
How can you possibly surmise that this was a love triangle from her photo? And contrary to the rumor you posted as proof, there were many different stories coming out at the beginning of the incident, but none I recall were of the RA being involved with the young woman other than trying to come to her aid.
The problem people are having with you, discounting your willingness to speak ill of the dead, is your proclaiming truths about a situation that you further claim to wish to understand.

emily was not involved with the shooter, and her boyfriend was not “new”. they have been dating for the last three years

From everything I have heard all morning long, on the different talk shows, is that Emily never even knew the shooter...many of the former roommates of the shooter were interviewed, and they said, the shooter was so reluctant to ever talk to anyone at all, that they find it quite impossible to believe, that this shooter could even make himself talk to any girl, much less get into a relationship with any girl...these former roommates have said, that the shooter, almost never even spoke to them, even tho living in the same area as them...everyone so far, that I have seen interviewed on TV, whether its people who went to the same high school as the shooter, or college roommates of the shooter, or professors and kids who were in the same class as the shooter, has said, that this fella barely spoke to anyone, ever, that he always, always wore dark sunglasses, and then when he did take his sunglasses of, if someone spoke to him, he would not even look at them, but rather kept just looking downward at the floor..
In other words, this shooter lived in a world of his own making, which seemed not to include talking to anyone at all...everyone who ever knew this shooter, say that it is completely inconceivable that he ever had any relationship with any girl at all, and certainly there appears to be no evidence at all, that he even knew Emily...
Apparently this shooter would not even talk to teachers, he just ignored them....one of his profs was alarmed at his behavior, and asked to have him removed from her glass, as she was felt there was something wrong with this fella...she chose to tutor him in one on one sessions, and recommended to him, on more than on occasion, that he seek professional help, for what seemed to be oddities in his behavior and character...she also informed some authorities at the university about this shooter, and had hoped that they would find a way to make him seek some sort of mental health assistance...she also relayed the information, that it was almost impossible to get this fella to even talk to her...she said it took her several sessions to even get him to remove his sunglasses...
However, this shooter was accused formerly of stalking two other female students at the university...these young women were warned against this shooter, and told to avoid making any sort of contact with him, as they were uncertain as to his motives...he also appeared in the dorms of these two young women that he was stalking, and there was supposed to have been something odd that he did, to I did not catch exactly what he was supposed to have done...in the end, neither young lady pressed criminal charges against him, and the university apparently tried to deal with this guy, by directing him to get some sort of mental health help...
Everyone interviewed, who knew this shooter from high school, or from contact at the university, all describe him in the same way...a lonely, seeminly depressed young man, who never spoke to anyone, who would not look at people directly, who would not even removed his sunglasses...he spent most of his time, at his laptop, either writing stories(which were violent, and graphic, and awful), and he ignored just about everyone...he also did set fire to his dorm...so stalking women, setting fire to one dorm, not responding to professors in class, unwilling to hold a normal conversation with roommates, unwilling to look anyone in the eye, unwilling to remove his sunglasses, all this seems to point to a particularly disturbed young man...
So did he knew Emily?...I doubt it...there is no proof that he knew her at all...but since he already is known to have stalked two other young women who did not know him, I should think it is a fair thing to guess that he might have been stalking Emily, without her ever being aware of it...
So from whatever source the info is supposed to be coming from, that Emily was supposed to have been somehow in a relationship with this shooter, seems to me, to have been a completely lousy and poor source...
Of course, I could be wrong..I await evidence that anyone here has, that anyone who knew Emily, knew of some connection between her and the shooter, or that anyone who knew the shooter, also knew of a relationship between the shooter and Emily..until then, this is gossip, that some seem to be all to willing to believe...sometimes gossip is true, sometimes gossip is completley false...

Exactly...which is why it was so hard, to see that this young man, would turn out to be a killer...some mental health professionals were also speaking, and saying that often many students are seen to be ‘odd’ or ‘lonely’ or ‘withdrawn’, or ‘depressed’, but they dont turn out to be killers....
However, what set this fella apart, from the normal ‘odd’ behavior of students, is that he actively stalked two other female students, he set fire in his dorm, and he also was taking snapshots, under his desk, of other students and faculty...those things are not normal, by any stretch of the imagination, and I am sure that you did not do those things...odd behavior, within acceptable guideliness is one thing, but stalking women, fire setting in dorms, and peeping tom sorts of picture taking are truly not within those guidelines..
