"Ismail Ax" was written in red ink on his arm, and was the name used to sign his suicide note.

Doesn't sound very Korean to me.

But the anagram of it -— “Islam Xai” -— does.

“Xai” is aoparently a Korean proper noun.

An informative anecdote. I must admit to my fellow Freepers that in a few unguarded moments of romantic heartbreak and other frustrating instances, as a young man, I found the idea of conversion to Islam to be at least at the level of more than a brain fart. Thankfully, reality always took hold before it progressed beyond that. The appeal? Draconian rules for comportment between the sexes, discipline, etc. We see how it appealed and continues to appeal to urban African Americans. It is popular as well in the penal system. So, would it be too much to at least consider as possible, that a man like the shooter might have so succumbed?

Ismail is the Muslim spelling.
As in Ismail Haniyeh the present head of HAMAS. - tom
