“He was a loner, and we’re having difficulty finding information about him,” school spokesman Larry Hincker said.

From another thread—who would have guessed?

Why is the information on the note he left behind being withheld?

Cho has the words ‘Ismial Ax’ written on the inside of his arm. Does anyone know what that means? I googled it and come up with nothing.

Not to discount the tragic shooting deaths of 30+ people, but the media frenzy has caused me to put that number of deaths into perspective. Why doesn't the media focus as much attention on the annual number of auto fatalities? Would you care to guess how many people die on our highways every year? I found a document on the national Department of Transporation website at: http://www.dot.gov/affairs/nhtsa1200.htm which provides the answer for the year of 1999. "The total number of people killed was down slightly from 41,471 in 1998 to 41,345 in 1999". That averages 113 people per day, every day! Where is the outrage over that? Where are the headlines? Where is the call to ban automobiles? The media agenda is obvious.

Wild ass speculation belo ...

I wonder if the victim choice was racially motivated. I’ve read one article saying he looked into several classrooms and passed them by. He ended up going into foreign language classes. Maybe the engineering rooms he looked into were too filled with other asians?

Well, how about the actions of the president? You have a first shooting incident where people are killed. do you shut down your campus? No...you keep classes running for two more hours, and then the SAME guy goes to his dorm, reloads, writes a “disturbing” note, and then goes out and kills 31 more students. Can you say “Prosecute the President?” If this is all true, how can he even THINK abuot attending ANY memorial events! HE FRIGGIN FAILED AND KIDS DIED!!!! I’ll hold my opinion on the police department for now.

Here is some interesting information that I found on FOX.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the note included a rambling list of grievances that railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus. The paper also reported that Cho died with the words "Ismail Ax" in red ink on the inside of one of his arms.

Quoting an "investigative source," the newspaper said Cho had shown recent signs of violent, aberrant behavior, including setting a fire in a dorm room and allegedly stalking some women, and that he was taking medication for depression. The Tribune also reported that Cho's family runs a dry cleaning business and he has a sister who atatended Princeton University. Cho and his family came to the United States in 1992, when he was 8 years old.

Law enforcement officials told ABCNews.com that Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9mm handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a 22-caliber handgun, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, sources said.

so let me get this straight...

the dude waxes poetic in his creative writing class about how he wants to kill people, VA Tech is so concerned that they send him to counseling, then nobody does anything to protect the rest of the students?

must be bush's fault.

“He apparently had scrawled the words “ISMAIL AX” on the inside of one arm, according to the Chicago Tribune, which may be a reference to the Islamic account of the Biblical sacrifice of Abraham.”

Strange how we seem to need to stratify, classify, and otherwise group-identify someone.

I’d me more interested in what causes someone’s heart to be so brutal - and what to do to help stop such people before they hurt others.

This unsubstantiated! Repeat: Unsubstantiated!

According to a Korean friend, Korean American papers are reporting that Cho’s parents have committed . Do we have anyone in the Korean community here who can confirm this rumor? My heart goes out to them regardless.
