When the tower sniper began shooting, the student went to their vehicles, got their deer rifles and pinned the shooter down.

Sounds good. But would never work.

Those civilians with guns would have been taken as other shooters by law enforcement / military!

The only thing done right in VT from what I have seen and heard is that the police ordered all of the students to place their hands on their heads - and if they did not they would be shot.

The days of the "Wild West" are over in the US.
Law enforcement must be able to ID other law enforcement in moments without civilians screwing up a security / military operation.

The police need to be retrained.

All police can do is ID the bodies after the blood bath.

Come one, in Israel, parents and teachers who escort school kids on a field trips get M-16s issued from the police station as a matter of course, for that reason.

(Indeed, when I met Mrs. MWT, she had an M-16 slung low, and she was screaming at archeology students. It was love at first site.)

A single 21-year old with a CWP would have put a stop to this —— indeed, that is EXACTLY what happened in the OTHER Virginia school shooting (Appalachia Law School) -— civilians got their weapons, returned fire, and ended a mass-killing at a body count of 6 or so.

No, the LEO’s were hiding behind trees waiting until the perp offs himself or runs out of ammo, while telling people with cellphone cams to get down.

Obviously, you have never been to Texas.
