Hispanics now dominate the federal Women, Infants, and Children free food program; Hispanic enrollment grew more that 25% from 1996 to 2002, while black enrollment dropped 12% and white enrollment dropped 6.5%. A case manager at a program for pregnant homeless women in Orange observes, "I'll have women in my office on their fifth child, when the others have already been placed in foster care. There's nothing shameful about having multiple children that you can't care for and to be pregnant again, because, then you can blame the system."

My point was to defuse emotionalism: to point out there are people who come here illegally who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for this country. They are not all drug dealers, or violent felons, or revanchist ideologues.

Ok, I’m confused. This post says I should be concerned about the growing birth rate in the US due to Hispanics. I have seen other post on FR which says we are throwing away our way of life since we are NOT keeping up with the muslim birth rates. Which am I suppose to support.
Most of the Irish came over after the potato famine of the 1840’s but I think you’re wrong in assuming they are so ethnocentric and “Irish first” as you seem to suggest. First, there are very few people of “pure” Irish descent except perhaps for some recent immigrants. That alone suggests they have assimilated into the American culture. The America you seem to describe sounds more like the balkanized Autro-Hungarian Empire. At best, the attitude you suggest is a very tiny minority in the USA of 300 million.

Unchecked Mexican immigration is NOT GOOD for America. My wife is 100% Tejano, and her family has been in Texas since the 1820’s, and SHE doesn’t like what is happening. The illegals are not assimilating, but simply using us.
Some of my own ancestors came over from Ireland 7 Scotland, but were proud to become Americans. These illegals have no desire to do so. They want our money, our benefits, and that is ALL!
No one on the thread is arguing in favor of the current chaos.
All I'm arguing is that there are indeed millions of Mexicans who would make good US citizens and they should be allowed to emigrate here.
