I didn't say that American soldiers were trained to "slaughter" innocent "civilians" or that there's no moral difference as per your mentioned scenario. Sadly, our argument is getting to be rather circular. It appears that I did somehow touch a nerve. You did. I'm kinda touchy when people talk about American soldiers and their capabilities, even if it's another American soldier. It seemed as if you were comparing a mass-murderer's mindset to that of an ordinary G.I.

That wasn't my intent. Serial murderers follow obsessions/compulsions. Enemy guerrillas are sometimes essentially devoid of emotions about killing and/or murdering. But what sets them apart from ours, is that they follow immoral orders with immoral cultural mindsets. In violent areas, I would be wary of any who are very emotional about killing (much fear or anger) or immoral/rebellious against human rights (pathological, evil,...).
But now the media has informed us that they were going on rumors with the accusations against a Chinese man, and that the murder suspect was an ROK citizen with a US residence visa. With 14 years in the USA, the young man must have trained (at least with much firing) here. ...shame.
