Gonzales was counsel at the White House, a much more political position.

When Charles Colson worked for Richard Nixon he was known as the “hatchet man.”

Colson dealt with the enemies.

The President through the Attorney General can fire these people whether there’s political motives or not.

Gonzales had the power to get rid of the U.S. Attorneys, but his politcal position and closeness to the President are being dragged in by the critics.

So why has Alberto been going to such lengths to distance himself from the decision? Why point the finger everywhere else?
