Virginia Tech Students Doomed by Gun Ban [a 'must read']

I just found out about the massacre at Virginia Tech.

The thing that makes me most angry is that the dead students were penned up like sheep for the slaughter, in a ridiculous "gun-free zone." A better phrase would be "self-defense-free zone," or maybe "danger-free zone for armed criminals."

9-11 was the finest argument ever made for kicking terrorist hind end as well. But we witnessed people like Rosie pinning it on our government.....I guess we can look forward to folks saying this happening was just a VRWC to push the gun agenda......

You’ve never seen the gang bangers in Los Angeles.....better watch some movies. Your little pee gun, no matter the size, wouldn’t stand a chance against them. They would shoot you, you mother, father, etc before you could make a move.

Sounds like you have watched too many movies. I pretty much guarantee that your average NRA member who is a regular at the range can shoot much better than most gang-bangers. It doesn't always matter who has the bigger gun. Also, what's your argument?...are you saying that you've accepted the idea of you and your family being gunned down so you've given up on the idea of even trying to fight back?

More guns is not the answer.....getting rid of the people that do this is the only answer.

Sorry dude, thats profiling! Even then theres no way in hell you could tell a nut bag from a regular Joe! I have personal experience in this. I personally worked with this guy. Seemed fine last week! No one suspected this.

Oh yes I have seen the gang bangers/dope dealers/thieves of LA. My ‘pee gun’ worked quite nicely keeping me and my possessions safe on several occasions.

In reality, gun control is what sealed their doom.

How? In just a few minutes this guy emptied his weapon which is not enough time for a guy to go to his car and get his gun. Maybe if those specific kids in the building had guns on themselves they could have prevented some deaths.

Come on. Let's deal with reason and facts rather than people toting agendas - on either side of the debate.

Wow. Ya mean like they're real mean and fast like that karate dude in Lethal Weapon 4 that took apart the pistol in Mel Gibson's hand? What a stud! Let me show ya how he did it. Here, hold my beer...

Are you serious?

I have mixed feelings on this one. I’m not sure that I would want 4000 teenage students running around armed.

I've got a great idea for you. How about only the police should have guns. Yeah, that's it. Then we'll be safe.

Would that be a bad thing? Gun control is what prevented some of those specific kids from being armed as well as teachers and TAs. Those are facts and the idea that one armed person could have stopped this is reasonable.

Advertising that your school is a “gun free zone” is tantamount to announcing it’s a free-fire zone for homicidal maniacs.<<
GUN FREE ZONES
How come they don't do the same thing for banks or convenience stores??

as usual... the cops show up just in time to count bodies..(nothing against the cops..but timing is everything)

and lastly...as the constitution was designed..
an armed man is a citizen...
a unarmed man is a subject...

Those are facts and the idea that one armed person could have stopped this is reasonable.

Not unless that armed person happened to be in that specific building at that specific time and happened to have the weapon on his/her body. So I am challenging the premise that "In reality, gun control is what sealed their doom." I think that is stretching. So while I oppose gun control I also don't appreciate people with agendas playing loose with reason and facts to make their points.

“an armed man is a citizen...
an unarmed man is a subject...”

Amen. I always felt much better knowing that the administrator at my school had a weapon in his office. Schools without such a prudent leader should have a sitting duck as their mascot. And a sitting duck is a dead duck.

Gun control in fact sealed their doom because the attacker knew he had absolutely no opposition anywhere on the campus.

One of the most important effects of a few people carrying concealed in an area (or even just the permission being given to do so) is that it makes the potential attacker hesitate. He knows that everyone is probably not carrying . . . but he doesn't know who is carrying. That element of uncertainty could keep anything from happening in the first place.

It certainly works to prevent "hot" burglaries in the South, as opposed to D.C.

And, of course, if somebody does have a weapon and either happens to be in the building or "rides to the sound of the guns" as students did in the Texas Tower shootings, then the attacker is pinned down, deterred, or eliminated before he can add to his list of victims.

Like I said, I am against gun control but not on campus..

Then you are for gun control. The 2nd Amendment allows for an armed citizenry. Your anti-gun agenda is only going to get you banned just like it did to another troll on another thread just minutes ago.

Not true based on the facts as we know them. Based on the info we have it appears we have a suicidal person with extreme rage wishing to vent destruction and having no concern about his own life. That is evidenced by him taking his own life rather than attempting to flee. In this case gun control legislation or lack of it was irrelevant to the outcome.

Except that he chose a place that had a strict gun control policy, so I’d say, yes, gun control sealed their doom.
