“Doesn’t Virginia Tech have a special responsibility to protect their students since they prohibit self defense?”

No, it’s worse than than that. Va. Tech actually disciplined a student about 2 years ago for lawfully carrying a concealed handgun. In response, Virginia Citizen’s Defense League lobbied for a bill to allow students (with CHPs) to carry on campus. The bill failed in committee.

To quote Va. Tech when that bill failed:

“Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was
defeated. “I’m sure the university community is appreciative of the
General Assembly’s actions because this will help parents, students,
faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.”

Don't suppose they all "feel" very safe on campus any more.

Feelings, so many dead for feelings.

So I'm not Doug From Upland.
