From what I understand, the professor who was a Holocaust survivor, lived in Israel for some time, and than came to the US. Not sure if he was the Romanian but his name does sound Slavic.

He was a Romanian Holacaust survivor, an American Citizen who had immigrated here from Israel.
Bennett put the pieces of the story together this am.
