Don’t think so. I think he was a marine - but only stateside, until a courts-martial and discharge. Never saw any info about him being deployed overseas.

Wasn’t it a little early for that? Maybe Korean War? IIRC, the autopsy showed that Whitman had a brain tumor which probably pushed him over the edge.
