The Hui nationalities is one of official 55 “Minority Nationalities” in the PRC. Basically the only thing that distinguishes the Hui people from the Han people (Chinese) is their practice of Islam. While we most often think of the Muslims of China living in Northwest China, the Hui are scattered throughout China. If they aren’t wearing their Muslim attire, you really couldn’t distinguish them from the Han Chinese.
Yep, 2% of 1,300,000,000 billion people is 26,000,000. I’m not sure what the percentage of the population is Hui.
To the 2% (26 million) Islamic population of China in perspective:
North Korea population 23 million
Iraq population 26 million
Afghanistan population 31 million
