Actually the jilted boyfriend theory is not what the TV talking heads are speculating, it’s what the students on campus are telling people, albeit much of its seems to be second or third-hand. It’s not being put out there by the authorities.
If it was in fact his girlfriend and her RA he shot in the 7:15 shooting, then I’ll bet this guy was a loser along the lines of Harris and Klebold - acquired weapons and vest, etc., not for self-defense but to make himself feel like a hard guy, was probably heavy into imaginary killing via videogames, and to top it off may have been angered if his “girlfriend” was messing around with other people, the “hook-up” culture on campus, especially if he was from a traditional muslim or hindu background. He was probably inadequate in the classroom as well as the bedroom, and being of foreign background perhaps led him into a generalized anger against other students generally, basically a ticking time bomb.
Just speculation, of course.
I doubt we will learn anything in this upcoming news conference.
