According to Wikpedia, he was born in '42, so he pretty much missed Korea (too young) and Vietnam (too old). He spent his 18-25 years (1960-67) in college and law school.

Your math's off a bit: Twenty-five years old in 1967 was not too old for Vietnam.

Well, Duncan Hunter managed Vietnam twice and with the army’s best units and he still managed law school afterwards. It’s a question of priorities I guess.
