Natural Balance Pulling Venison Formulas (Pet Food Firestorm!)
Itchmo ^ | Monday April 15, 2007 | Milwaukee_Guy

Itchmo has confirmed an email from Natural Balance that they are removing two products from sale:

Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Formula Venison and Green Pea Dry Dog Cat Formula

These products do not contain wheat gluten. No deaths or serious illnesses have been reported and no recall warning has been issued. The warning applies only to products sold in the last week, according to Natural Balance.

"Please know that at this time we are removing this product from the shelves, as we have had some phone calls indicating gastric upset after eating this formula. At this time, we are unsure if this could just be a particular batch problem, or simply customers switching diets too fast. However, in the meantime while we are looking further into this matter, we are not recommending to feed this formula, and are suggesting to feed our Potato and Duck or Sweet Potato and Fish Dry Dog Formula."

Well crap. This sucks. I was hoodwinked by NB too. I don’t feed the foods in question, but if one can be contaminated they all can.

Get on the holistic sites and take a look at what they offer re raw diets. You can basically make your own food after reading some of these diets, such as BARF, Farmore, natures logic, etc. The people who work in these places are more that happy to help.

I figure that I can maybe feed some of the raw diet and mix it with veggies, maybe oatmeal, barley, apples and it will go a longer way since I have three dogs & it’s expensive to feed raw. BARF diet is $88 and I think it would last me 8/9 days. Kinda expensive when you have more than one dog.

I have several cans of Wysong Just Meat that arrived a few days ago. I’ll switch to it and add a few green beans and a little rice. It should last awhile, but I tried feeding them a little of the turkey and they wouldn’t touch it. Hoping they’ll change their minds if I mix it up.

I hope Wysong doesn’t turn out to be like NB. :(

I`ve switched to Felidae food for my cat. It`s produced by Canidae. They are`nt affected by the recall, and claim all the ingredients in their cat and dog foods are grown in the US.

I hear you on Natural Balance, that’s the food that made my little boy sick.

Where did you find this info??

“Also, inositol, which is in all their foods is soy”

Inositol isn’t soy

According to my “Consumer’s Dictionary of Food Additives” “inositol” is made from corn.

I switched to GoodLife Recipe and Newman’s Cat food. I still haven’t seen anything on either of them. Does anyone know if they are safe? I truly feel the name-brand ought to be fined heavily for not knowing what is in their product (if it means they do their own quality control of ingredients) and that their product does not contain contaminants.
