Wolfowitz says misleading information circulating in controversy
San Diego Union Tribune ^ | April 15, 2007 | Harry Dunphy

Battling to hold on to his job, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz said misleading information has been circulating over his involvement in a huge pay increase awarded to a close female friend.

“I feel, however, that this has left a vacuum, which has largely been filled by misleading information” and conceded the 109 pages of documents about the controversy released by the board are “a lot to wade through for significant facts so I would like to call your attention to a number of them."

Wolfowitz included a link to the package of documents, as did a posting on the bank's Web site Saturday.

A deputy defense secretary and one of the architects of Bush's Iraq war strategy, Wolfowitz has been working behind the scenes at weekend meetings of finance ministers and central bankers to drum up support to stay in his post and presented reports to the bank's policy-setting Development Committee Sunday, which ends with a news conference.

The White House has said President Bush has confidence in Wolfowitz.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said the United States welcomed and supported an updated version of the bank's anti-corruption strategy developed under Wolfowitz's leadership. Since taking over, Wolfowitz has made anti-corruption efforts a priority, prompting concern from some of the board's European members that he was overemphasizing the issue.

From her Wiki bio.

Shaha Riza

“She was born in Tripoli, Libya, to a Libyan father and Syrian-Saudi mother. She grew up in Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom.”

I do not get the felling the Shaha Riza is Jewish.

Maybe he shouldn’t have lied to reporters about his role in the huge salary hike for his girlfriend. That’s as good a way as any to get misinformation out. He needs to quit.

No he wasn’t. Name one thing he did to halt corruption. He yanked uzbekistan’s funds and not tajikistan’s or Iraq’s? Like uzbekistan is this poster boy for corruption and not Iraq or Tajikistan? Who’s he fooling? He talked a lot about corruption but he lined a lot of his friends’ pockets in the process - not just his Muslim honeypot, but other cronies from the Pentagon days, too, nasty mean arrogant and overpaid ones who looked down on the bank staff but knew nothing, literally nothing, about economics or development banking. How’d you like something like that to happen to you at your workplace?

Wolfie, like Bill Clinton, has trouble keeping his fly zipped up. His work in eliminating corruption in the U.N., a lifetime job is destroyed by his personal piccadillos.

Former Deputy Secretary of Defense and current head of the World Bank, Paul Wolfowitz is personally corrupt. He was corrupt when he tried to turn Iraq over to Ahmad Chalabi, who had been convicted of embezzling $300 million from his own bank. He was corrupt when he pushed the Iraq War with a bunch of phony arguments and the most disgusting campaigns of vilification against anyone who disagreed with him. And he was corrupt when he arranged for his Shiite Iraqi girlfriend, Shaha Riza, to get enormous wage increases.

She is Shaha Ali Riza, an Arab feminist who confounds portrayals of Wolfowitz as a leader of a “Zionist conspiracy” of Jewish neoconservatives in Washington. More to the point, she works at the World Bank, where staff are muttering mutinously at the ethical implications of their next president conducting a romantic relationship with an employee.

The man Bush calls “Wolfie”, a former academic better known for his cerebral skills than his amorous adventures, has discreetly been walking out with Riza, an Oxford-educated British citizen who was born in Tunisia, grew up in Saudi Arabia and works as the bank’s senior gender co-ordinator for the Middle East and north Africa. She not only shares Wolfowitz’s passion for spreading democracy in the Arab world, but is said to have reinforced his determination to remove Saddam Hussein’s oppressive regime.

I though I read recently she was Jewish.

Doesn't matter when Wolfowitz tells her to bark she barks. So she's whatever he's willing to have someone pay her to be and or do. It would seem, especially if it's someone else's money that is paying for the honey.

for the Middle East and north Africa.

What is a gender coordinator?
Please don't tell me there is a salaried position with that title.

The World Bank is currently not allowed to participate in the Iraq reconstruction. With Wolfiwitz in the top spot I would expect that situation to change and the US would let the World Bank get involved. It might also be part of a long term exit strategy which would allow the US to maintain some influence in Iraq after the troops are gone.
