We do follow Jesus.

Luke 22

36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’[b]; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”

38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”
“That is enough,” he replied.

When the disciples said, “two swords” and Jesus said that was enough, what did Jesus really mean ?

Two swords for twelve apostles ? and perhaps hundreds of disciples at that time ?

We have to look at the “two sword” quote in light of the fact that the Holy Spirit had not come yet to either protect the disciples or give them the power to endure persecution.

So between the time Jesus was taken from them and the time of the Pentecost, the disciples were actually defenseless and Jesus in His wisdom said that two swords would be enough to protect them till Pentecost.

But after the Holy Spirit came, the disciples used the “sword” of the Spirit which is God’s Word as their only defense against the powers of darkness.

You can also look at the “two sword” quote as God’s way of telling weak christians that if it is difficult for them to depend on the Holy Spirit for protection or strength to endure persecution, than those weak christians would need the sword to protect them
