Because bees pollinate the great majority of crops and Agriculture is our number one industry in America and the economy is being affected as this continues.

Wrong, wrong and wrong. The crops we rely on for most of our calories, such as corn, wheat, rice, do not require insects for pollination. Please provide statistics to the contrary.

Agriculture is not the number one industry in America. The service industry is the highest component of GDP, followed by manufacturing.

The economy is *not* being affected at all by this issue. The economy is showing strong growth for the past six years - there is absolutely no evidence of the economic crisis you allude to.

I'm not even going to address the extremely speculative claims about cell phones and their effect on bees. Your rant in general is unbelievably wrong and naive. Please don't post this garbage here.

Budd, chill out. I didn’t ‘rant’.

I brought up the topic because I thought it was interesting.

I may have been mistaken about Agriculture as part of GNP or GDP. I’m not an economist and was going by memory. Perhaps it is the #1 export my poor old brain synapses dredged up. But won’t you concede that it is an important part of the economy?

Regarding bee polination, they DO pollinate a hell of a lot of crops and trees—see http://ohioline.osu.edu/b559/559_1.html

I suppose if one were inclined to argue, I could say that the number of vegetables and fruits polinated by bees exceed the number of crops like corn, rice, etc that you cited.

Buy why nitpick over ‘most’ ‘many’ or ‘crops that provide calorie intake.” I’m gonna concede your point ‘cause I don’t care to argue.

Won’t a disruption in many crops polination affect the economy, however slightly? Gotcha there. :-)

I’m not a Luddite (ban cell phones) or a ranting tree-hugger. Just an old man who thought this was interesting and may have misspoke a little. I appreciate your comments, however, and hope you will give me a little slack.

“Please provide statistics to the contrary.”

The article I read stated that 1 of 3 bites of food we eat today relies heavily on bees for pollination.
