This is a troubling development where bees are concerned because they are essential in the pollination process for much of the fruit we eat. Where mobile phone radiation is concerned time will tell ... it's my opinion that down the road 10 or 15 years from now tumors in the cranium will become a concern and big news item. People who spend hours each day with a cell phone stuck to their ear (like many teenagers) will be the first to succumb to this health threat.
You may or may not have a correlation between bees and cell phones, or cell phones and tumors, or whatever....but you sure as hell don’t investigate it by putting a cell phone near a bee hive and the try to discern something from that.
Is this really the state of science in the 21st century?
1) setting a cellphone near it without it transmitting means what? It transmits very little power/data just being turned on....that’s why talk time is so much shorter than “standby” battery life.
You put the bees and the phone in an anechoic faraday cage and see what kind of (if any) RF signals affect the bees...you do not do a totally uncontrolled experiment like that and infer something when you have no idea what the ambient RF background in your test areas look like.
How bout we do a test of putting a brightly colored plastic cell phone next to the bee hive with no battery in it and see what that does! Is there something about plastic they don’t like? About non-eutectic ‘green’ electronics that smell funny to them? Maybe there’s a virus or parasite on human ears that collects on cell fones that they are allergic to? Maybe they think it’s a big scary bird egg and are afraid of the damn thing!
2) The original AMPS analog fones put out much larger amounts of power in the 80s/90s. Why not then?
3) What are the other ambient RF sources? NEXRAD radar sweeps blasting them, satellite TV and internet signals blanket the entire globe in fixed footprints and scans every day.
cell phones use multiple different frequency bands in Europe vs. here. What about out in the country where cell phones and base stations are scarce. Why not scare about RF leakage from microwave ovens, aircraft radar, bluetooth headsets, spurious EMI from PCs, HAM Radio transmissions, Radio stations, XM radio, ....
And while we all know that Algoracle conveniently ignores the possible effects of recent increases in solar activity on the climate patterns....why not assume a connection between a nearby unshielded fusion reactor (the Sun) instead of cell phones? If bee colonies don’t get weeded out periodically, wouldn’t they be swarming the entire planet after a few million years?
If the bee colonies in the world have dropped down to 60% of last year, what was the bee population before artificial bee farming was prevalent? How did crops and forests grow in the 16th century without people in netting with boxes?
And this is the only redeeming factor, noted physicist and cosmologist Einstein has something to say about bees.
Albert Einstein once said that if the bees disappeared, “man would have only four years of life left”.
Wrong again. The world ends in 2012, so that’s -5- years away, not 4. =)
One can only hope...
: )
That's why I use a wired hands free set. Listening to a walkman never killed anyone's brain. (well ... maybe that's debatable)
