---"The liabilities that should make him an impossible choice for genuine conservatives are real. He was cold as ice to his wife and children. He is personally irreligious, as far as anyone knows. (Veteran New York investigative journalist Wayne Barrett has reported that he was almost never known to attend Mass; centrist Democratic blogger Ed Kilgore has wondered whether Giuliani can even be called a Catholic anymore; and it seems clearly true that, according to Church principles reiterated by Pope Benedict XVI on March 14, he can't, as a divorcee, even take communion. Matters are further complicated by the fact that his nuptials to his current wife were civil.) For the important job of homeland-security chief, he pushed Bernard Kerik, a man he almost certainly knew to have had ties to organized crime.
Most of all, he actually botched 9-11 -- failing to equip the Fire Department of New York with the proper radios and arrogantly (and perhaps corruptly, according to Barrett and Dan Collins in their book, The Grand Illusion) putting his "bunker" in the only building complex in the city that had been the target of a previous terrorist attack, the World Trade Center."---

“Giuliani is the kind of candidate a party nominates after it’s lost a bunch of elections,” Pinkerton says. “You know: ‘He’s not from the base, but we’re desperate to win.’”
That sounds eerily familiar.

They seem to be forgetting that the GOP has WON 7 of the last 10 presidential elections.

...if this scenario plays out, the GOP could be a neutered minority party for eight years. The only possible scenario that could avoid the entire collapse of the Republican Party as a viable political force for years to come is the nomination of Rudy Giuliani to be president. Even this is no sure thing, but it is the only plausible path to victory. This is what the polls say, it is what the trends show. Ignore the evidence at your peril.
The conservatives too often confuse political ideology with political judgment. Political ideology is about pursuing your hopes and dreams for the society you live in. Political judgment is about taking the public's pulse and getting the best coalition you can.
If anyone thinks we'd be better off as a minority party with no power in the congress or the White House, than we would as a compromised majority coalition with Giuliani in the White House, he is out of his gourd.
Giuliani is a proven leader, a tough, scrappy fighter, and the vast majority of the time he will be fighting for things I believe in, such as tax cuts, defending the country, and disciplined spending. The more I watch him campaign, the more I admire him because he refuses to grovel to the social conservatives, and that will win him plenty of support among the non-activist majority.
BTW, Rudy has more in common with Reagan than Thompson does in two key respects: (1) he has been campaigning for the job for years ahead of the election; and (2) criticism runs off him like water off a duck, simply because people like and trust him.

Not only is Rudy disingenuous, he has caused Catholics to support abortion, nice people to okay adultery, good people to okay gun control, forgiveness for poor judgment in regards to Kerik...etc, can you see where this leads us to support a person like Rudy? He has even caused people to lie, and wrangle around with the truth and verifiable fact. Say NO to Rudy.p>
