“Loose” versus “lose” drives me crazy.

Also, “insure” versus “ensure”. Those two have gotten so bad that even the dictionaries have given up trying to explain the difference to people.

A particular favorite of some knuckleheads on this website is "facist" when they mean "fascist".

Another is "missle" when they mean "missile".

Sigh.

The dictionaries have given up explaining a lot of things. As soon as enough ignoramuses misuse or misspell a word, it appears in the dictionary as an alternative.

A recent confusion that has appeared all over the place lately: precipitous instead of precipitate. Precipitous = steep. Precipitate = sudden.
