You're right about Rather, but SeeBS' failure to control Rather shouldn't be an excuse for Don Imus. He's an obnoxious jerk and it is long past time he got the boot. Yes, everyone knew that Imus' schtick is hate and race baiting, and they kept paying him to do it. I think the difference is that Dave Chappelle is funny. Don Imus was not trying to be funny.
Put another way, when Imus acts like Imus on the air it is free speech. If Imus acted like Imus in a bar, it would be expensive dental work.
