The ones I knew used crackers to refer to farmers, not necessarily whites. Of course those I knew were from inner city Baltimore.

"Cracker" is a pejorative term originally used to describe someone from the south coast of Georgia or sometimes Florida.
But in recent decades it has entered common usage throughout the United States by blacks to insult whites..
