Looking at the pics of the SUV....how did he get injured so badly? It doesn’t look like it rolled.
The part about his legs out the window is interesting because we have a full-sized suburban and I used to be able to prop my feet up on the dash in our van, there is no way I can do the same thing in our Suburban. Also, what about airbags? We have airbags on driver and passenger side. Our's is a 2004 and the 2005 and newer Suburbans also have side impact airbags.
And don't be surprised if he dies. The airway is only about the diameter of a pencil. When the chest hits something, the air in the lungs has to go somewhere, and it can't go out the airway. Lungs rupture. They may also be punctured by the ribs. The impact may also bruise the heart. Blood vessels in the chest may pull apart from the stress. Then there's the open femur fracture, which frequently leads to infection.
The complications that can arise from these injuries are life threatening without the actual injuries. He can bleed to death from any number of vessels, lose the ability to breathe, or lose the ability of his heart to pump. Whatever happens, Cooper University deserves accolades for keeping him alive this long. If he lives, it will be an achievement.
If he does live, he will be incapable of governance. For one thing, he won't be able to move due to the rib fractures, and he won't be able to turn his head for the next year or more. If he regains consciousness, I expect him to resign in the next few days. That is, if he lives that long.

He was thrown on impact from the passenger area to the cargo area. It appears that most of his serious injuries would not have occurred if he had his seat belt fastened.
