I can concede, but I always thought that Johnston’s death was the damper on the Confederate drive towards the river, etc. :)

It certainly did, it took the subordinate generals what, an hour? Two hours? to sort things out -- and so did the Hornet's Nest, until Col. Ruggle lined up all the artillery in one big battery.

Trouble was, those two developments took most of the afternoon. Johnston got shot about two o'clock, and the Confederates didn't reach the Union last-ditch defenses until nearly seven.
