Actually, if the statement was “The vast majority” rather than “All” it would probably be reasonably accurate. At the time of its formation, the Republican Party stood for centralizing power, higher taxes, higher government spending and so forth.

I am not sure exactly when the parties switched positions or who is responsible. I have argued that FDR did it, but other FReepers have made convincing arguments for various other times and individuals.
