MAYOR GIULIANI DELIVERS REMARKS AT NARAL'S 16TH ANNUAL AWARDS RECEPTION (1997)
NYC.gov ^ | April 3, 1997 | Rudy Giuliani

Posted on 04/12/2007 7:40:59 AM PDT by pissant

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani tonight joined the members of the National Abortion & Reproductive Rights Action League of New York State (NARAL/NY) for the group's 16th Annual Gala Awards Reception at B. Smith's Restaurant in Manhattan. This year's awards were presented to Wendy Mackenzie, for her work in several pro-choice organizations; Department of Health Commissioner Margaret Hamburg for promoting a policy that reproductive healthcare must be viewed as part of the overall scope of healthcare; Christy Haubegger, founder of the bilingual magazine Latina, which tackles issues like abortion and birth control; and Claudia Crown Ades, who underwent an abortion in her sixth month of a non-viable pregnancy and has worked diligently to keep this procedure legal.

"As many of you may know, I have a long record of support for the struggles women have endured to gain equality in our society," said Mayor Giuliani. "And personally, I've always had great empathy for the obstacles women have had to overcome throughout this century. Perhaps the most intense struggle has been over the right of choice.

"For 25 years, NARAL/NY has worked legislatively and electorally to protect women's access to safe and legal abortion and expand the full range of reproductive rights to all women, regardless of age, race or income," the Mayor added. "I congratulate NARAL/NY for taking the time to honor these outstanding four women and, on behalf of all New Yorkers, I would like to thank each honoree for her strength, dedication, and courageous efforts to ensure that future generations of American women have the right to choose."

Nice that you agree with his insipid statements.

Yeah, Rudy personally hates abortion. He hates it so much, he addressed NARAL. Twice. The second time, after he had won re-election, which debunks the spin that he needed the NARAL voting bloc.

And in his second speech to NARAL, in 2000, he praised eugenecist Margaret Sanger.

I wish the Rudy boosters would just say "Rudy is pro-choice, deal with it."

As Rudy himself said, if you don't like his views, vote for someone else. I'll take him up on that suggestion. It's the one honest statement he and his boosters have made in the Rudy abortion debate.

“Claudia Crown Ades, who underwent an abortion in her sixth month of a non-viable pregnancy and has worked diligently to keep this procedure legal.” If the pregnancy was non-viable, why did she need an abortion?

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Addressing NARAL is a non-issue?

It debunks Rudy's claim that he is personally anti-abortion. You don't address NARAL - twice - if that is the case. It would be like me saying I'm pro-gun but addressing a Brady rally.

Oops, Rudy addressed them as well.

Exactly. Why don't the Rudy people just come out in the open, and be honest with us? They want a pro-choice nominee, and they probably want one to "prove" that the GOP has "broken the hold" of the Bible-thumping redneck yahoos who somehow got ahold of the part in 1980.

Giuliani- "Abortion is equal rights."

If he is the nominee, you can probably count me out.

(Has Fred Thompson EVER spoken at an abortion banquet? Has he ever been the keynote speaker at an abortion fundraiser?)

praising leftist vermin like NARAL may make you sleepy, but to a conservative, its a show stopper.

Bella Abzug would be proud of him. Bet she was even in attendence

Thanks pissant, for yet another revealing post about RINO-rudy.

Keep up the good work posting the TRUTH about liberal RINO-rudy. There's nothing like from the "horses mouth" speeches, articles and video to show that this @sshole has a definite track record of leadership from the LEFT, particularly where abortion and gun control are concerned.

Why don't the Rudy people just come out in the open, and be honest with us?

Because, despite their claims to the contrary, Rudy cannot win the general election without the socon vote. I forget who said it, but you don't need to fool all the people all the time, just 51% every four years.

I am so sick of this. If Giuliani wins the Republican nomination, it says so much about the ability of an American to be led like a pathetic little sheep with a rope. You can’t put together a coherent analytical thought if you claim to be an individualist with personal responsiblity and moral clarity, yet want this stupid liberal to be your President.

It would be like me saying I'm pro-gun but addressing a Brady rally.

These banquets are fundraisers. They always pass the hat after the speech. Rudy helped NARAL raise money to fight prolifers.

The only way Rudy could be more pro-abortion is if he performed them with his bare hands.

It's ironic that the Republican party, currently the party regarded as the pro-life and family values party, may nominate the most vocal and open pro-abortion candidate in the history of U.S. Presidential elections.

And you're his biggest fan.
