I wonder when Iggy Pop, Johnny Rotten, and Mick Jones are going to demand that Snoop Dog find some word other than “punk” to describe Don Imus.

"Allow me to translate. ..."

You forgot the "ergo"

I just love it when the word ergo is used in a sentance!

and thanks for the translation, you would not believe what I thought Snoop was saying, I am so glad you cleared that up! : )

Peace Out (or is that too '90's?)

Forget the racial slur as far as I’m concerned, since I’ve heard other black people use that term about themselves and their friends, Imus called the young women whores, albeit in a shortened, slang fashion. That is beyond acceptable behavior.

So a racial slur is okay with you because you've heard the phrase used before, but the word 'ho' is unacceptable? You've never heard anyone refer to themselves and their friends as 'ho', 'biatch', 'skank', 'tramp', 'slut', 'hoochie', 'wench', 'skeez', 'tart', 'ghetto girl', 'floozy', 'golddigga', 'slag' ...?

I’ve heard plenty, but to attack the man strictly for the racial slur is ridiculous.

Let me clarify that a bit more. It’s more that the nappy-headed was used as descriptive, not as a racial slur when I heard it being used. Calling somebody a whore (unless they actually ARE whores) is just wrong, and by whore, I mean a prostitute, somebody who exchanges sex for money.

I agree- the comment and the resulting circus is ridiculous. Just wondering why you’re giving him a pass on the racial slur because you’ve heard others use the phrase but not willing to give him a pass on the word ‘ho’ even though you may have heard others use the phrase.

I will translate:

Rap is over cause old white guys are adopting the language.

Subtext: Who cares? I got out early and landed an acting gig.

That settles it. Snoop Dogg, because of this, I’m never going to buy your music again. This goes for any music of yours I never bought in the past. Count me among the people who will never before and never again buy your music.

I'm giving up Imus too ~ even though I never listened to or watched Imus except when doing channel cruising.

Feels good to reject such smarmy cultural icons I generally know nothing about.

Now, when it comes to rap I definitely know some stuff on Emenem and 50 Cent, but they get their stuff hummed in beer joints nationwide, and cops have been known to draw guns when they hear 'em on someone's I-pod.

Definitely need to keep on top of Emenem, et al, but not ol' Snoop, and certainly not Imus.

Sounds like the finger pointing at the Rap culture is starting to burn some of the folks who are promoting it.

Will Sony, EMI and the corporations have to look at their lists of music that makes Imus's comments seem suitable for church services in this new light?

Mmm.. somehow one wonders, but if Snoop and his buddies are worried, perhaps they are.

Snoop represents the nihilist, hedonistic rap, porn, and drug cancer that has been destroying the generation that accepts it as the norm. Kids live with this view of not thinking about next year or their lives as having any meaning past this moment. Kids of good families are being destroyed by peer pressure to debase themselves, and thus find themselves below their own contempt with little hope.

Our society used to be able to forget and redeem, but now, mistakes and errors are painted on your forehead (electronically). Kids sucked into this vortex have a lifetime to regret. Movie Star or high school kid, the young are digested by this horror. Used and discarded into dependency on the largess of the State.

The "Great Society" has become as a coordinated whole just as much a holocaust in slow motion as Hitler's machine of death. Millions of Mexican and Latin American people are having to be imported to fill jobs that would have been the birthright of the youth of America had these people been allowed to exist.

If the solution to "poverty" had been proposed as faith and education rather than Government handouts to fatherless families, then America would be a different place. Perhaps Martin Luther King's Dream would be much closer to realization, rather than just being a naive hope for a different future. The choice is still our own.

As for a motive for him being fired—I’d say that plain old stupidity on his part is sufficient reason.

During the opening months of the French Revolution there was a certain very blue-blooded nobleman* who sided with the sans culottes thinking to make himself their leader, play up the Revolution for his own advantage, blah, blah, blah.

Well, you guessed it. Within the year he was denounced as an "enemy of the people" by the same (class of) people he had sided with, ultimately ending up shorter by a head.

Anyway, while at a cafe, he was complaining to a friend about the ingratitude of the radicals, and wondered why they had turned against him. His friend, squeezing a slice of lemon and then tossing it into the dust, replied: "That's why."

IOW they had gotten what they wanted out of the man and now no longer needed him. This, IMHO, is what happened to Imus.

*I'm not being coy, I really don't remember the guy's name.

It’s more that the nappy-headed was used as descriptive, not as a racial slur when I heard it being used.

Nappy-headed is one heck of a heavy handed descriptor and a great leap past any other word or term he could have used to describe the team. So if one wanted to be offended, one could read a lot more into the use of the term.

Calling somebody a whore (unless they actually ARE whores) is just wrong, and by whore, I mean a prostitute, somebody who exchanges sex for money.

He used the word 'ho'. Of course the Rutgers team doesn't deserve to be called 'ho'. And they certainly deserve more respect that to be casually referred to as 'nappy-headed'. The way I heard it, imus was trying to be funny in his usual grumpy way. 'Ho' is a funny word. It just sounds funny. Coupled with 'nappy-headed' it sounds even funnier. Last night on the Tonight Show, Wanda Sykes got a lot of laughs off of the term 'nappy-headed ho'. She stated that many people were asking her to chime in on the controversey as if she were now the representative for all 'nappy-headed hoes', which got a huge chuckle from the host and the audience. Still, if one wanted to be offended, one could read a lot more into the use of the term.

We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel.

If this is true, what does it say about me that I currently have Motorhead's "March or Die" running through my head? Earlier it was Drowning Pool's "Step Up".

Ye Olde Double Standard. Screw Snoop Puppy...

Sharpton, Jessie, Snoop, et al: 'You ain't no brutha and you ain't from the 'hood' so you can't talk like that, honky. First we gonna make you cry, then we make you apologize, then we make you kiss the ring, then we get you fired, then we take your house. Nothin' personal, my man.'

Imus: 'Wouldn't it be easier to just sue me for plagarism?

S/J/S, et al: 'Ain't no air time in that, sucka!'
