Columbia, Missouri residents concerned about global warming plan a rally at 2 p.m. Saturday outside the Boone County Courthouse to urge Congress to reduce U.S. carbon emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050.
Participants will be able to pledge to reduce their own carbon emissions and sign a petition encouraging government action. Organizers have scheduled live music at the gathering and a speech by Jan Weaver, director of environmental studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Organizers also plan a march on Eighth Street, from Courthouse Square to the Columns at MU, where informational booths will be set up.
The gathering is part of a national campaign called Step It Up and is locally sponsored by the League of Women Voters, Sustain MIZZOU, Missourians for Safe Energy and the Climate Change Coalition.

Saturday: A chance of rain and snow before noon, then a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 45.
Somebody who is a subscriber to 24/7 Rush should forward this so Rush can plug this event.....
I bet it snows on Saturday.....
sorry..... My weather forecast came from weather.gov ... not .org
This has been a rough spring for the global warming fanatics.
Mother Nature continues to stymie the global warming folks.
You would think that these wackos would learn to schedule these things in August. What a bunch of morons.
The Boston Marathon may also get snowed out. This has been labeled a result of Climate Change. The Spring and Summer are starting later and we are in shorts for most of the football season. Maybe, just maybe, the Earth wonât work in lock step with our calenders which were decreed by Augustus Ceaser.
Will Al Gore be there selling carbon indulgences?
CHECK OUT www.iceagenow.com I will look at it later today.
I’m starting to think the same thing.
God Knows
And yet of course whenever we get unseasonably warm weather they’re out in full force.
I’m going there to sell carbon credits! I’ll clean up! ;O)
no - But I maybe I should set up a booth and sell FreeRepublic Carbon Credits....the proceeds going to he current fund raising drive.
I hope it don’t snow. Have tickets to the Cards game on Sat.
phooey to the green socialists.
Record cold temps and all the damage to plants last week is a long way from the amateur weather forcasters who predict excessive heat. Definitely what the weather will be this year they say. Can’t predict the weather 5 days in advance.
The biggest myth is man predicting the weather. Remember all the hurricaines that didn’t happen last year?
We had an average, old fashioned winter here. I thought they predicted abnormally warm. could have fooled me.
I’m telling you it’s Mother Nature. She does not suffer fools gladly.
Naw! They just call it a Global Warming "speed bump!" The oceans have been cooling since 2003 and that's what they call it, a Global Warming "speed bump!"
“Dress warm for snow.” — Because these global warming fools are blind adherents to a new religion, they are discounting the evidence right in front of their eyes! lol
