"In this case, with the weight of the state behind him, the Durham district attorney pushed forward unchecked."
"[W]e also need checks and balances to protect the innocent. This case shows the enormous consequences of overreaching by a prosecutor."
Unfortunately, these young men can't have their sullied reputations restored. I'm sure that there are some folks (the-O.J.-was-framed crowd) that will always believe these men are guilty.
Well, jurors, where shall we start the bidding?

The Durham taxpayers deserve to foot at least a large part of the bill. They elected Niforg knowing that he was perpetrating a judicial lynching. It's good for voters also to be held accountable in the proper situation, which this one definitely is.

Waiting to see if Nifong is thrashed more or less than Imus.

Shep’s still on a roll. This time, I frighteningly find myself agreeing with him! Scary.

Does this mean she doesn’t get her scholarship from the Rev Jackson?

Having press conference with players, their families and their attorneys now.
To: tsmith130
Just tuning in. Is the speaker going to a prom, getting married, or just a male model for “rent-a-tux”?

I like the way Shep is able to chew gum and snap his fingers while he reads the news.
To: Sleeping Freeper
My guess is everyone will start distancing themselves from NifongI seriously doubt that. Most of his black support knew what the evidence was and they still love him.

Shep lost it long ago, if he ever had it.
I lost any respect I had for him, for his post-Katrina histrionics.

This case reminded me of the movie “Bonfire of the Vanities”. I am glad these young men can now start to reclaim their honor.

When the young men own Durham and Wake County, they still won’t have anything worth having. That area is a cesspool and if God were to give North Carolina an enema, He would put it in Durham.

The attorney generals office isnt just dropping the charges, but actually exonerating the accused men. And they even go further than that:
Therefore, I propose a law that the North Carolina Supreme Court have the authority to remove a case from a prosecutor in limited circumstances. This would give the courts a new tool to deal with a prosecutor who needs to step away from a case where justice demands.
They are saying that the prosecutor was reckless and would not stop even when he knew better. What will language of this nature do for Nifong's other cases? Won't defense attorneys from now on simply have to imply that he's overreaching again on every case he prosecutes? Wow.
To: The Enlightener
All three of these young men are so grateful to their families and advantages. They know that if they didn’t have supportive families and accomplished attorneys, they would probably be facing 20 years in jail.
