Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., will be the featured speaker at Virginia Commonwealth University's 2007 spring commencement ceremony.
Webb, sworn in as Virginia's 56TH United States Senator in January, is a highly decorated Marine combat veteran who served in the Vietnam War. His victory in the November election attracted national attention as it tilted the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.
He received his law degree from Georgetown University in 1975 and subsequently served the U.S. Congress as a counsel to the House Committee on Veteran Affairs. He was appointed Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs in 1984 and became Secretary of the Navy in 1987.
In addition to Webb's public service, he has a long career as a writer. He has authored eight books, including six novels, and has worked as a screenwriter and producer in Hollywood. He earned an Emmy Award for his coverage of the U.S. Marines in Beirut for PBS.
Commencement exercises take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, at the Richmond Coliseum.

The coliseum area has seen it’s share of shootings.... I wonder if Webb knows that?

He should revisit that article he wrote about a decade ago, ripping the Democrats for losing Vietnam and for generally being such spineless hacks..... anyone have the link for that one, I’ve been searching for it and can’t find it but I know it came up here during the 2006 elections. It was a great column from the “old” Jim Webb before he had become just another Demagogue hack.......

It would make me laugh if, when Webb is introduced, that the entire coliseum yells, “Lt. Dan”. I doubt he’d get the joke but it would be pretty funny.
