WASHINGTON Former Tennessee Republican Sen. Fred Thompson told FOX News on Wednesday that he's in remission from cancer.
"I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't satisfied in my own mind as to the nature of it and the fact that not only will I have an average life span, but in the meantime, I will not be affected in any way by it," Thompson said. "Now of course nobody knows the future but that has been in the history for almost three years now in terms of no symptoms and no sickness."

It ought not to, but it will. I fear this knocks him right out of the race.

It ought not to, but it will. I fear this knocks him right out of the race. Why should it knock him out of the race? Juli is running isn't he and he has/had cancer, at least that was his excuse for whimping out and not taking on the beast for the senate race.

This is just another step toward announcing his candidacy, anyone seriously considering a run releases info like this rather than letting the opposition do it for them.

It’s obviously an indication that he’s thinking seriously about running. It doesn’t look to me that he would have had any need to announce this publically otherwise.

Good point. I hope it isn’t a factor, but you know the libs will make it one.

Another good point, but this is a different age. I’m just worried. Because he is a true conservative, the libs will use anything and everything to hurt his chances. I’ve come to realize that the left in this country is as big an enemy to this nation as communism, and they are just as ruthless.

The biggest obstacle for Fred will be that word “incurable” that the medical links have next to his condition. AFAIK, Rudy and McCain are both claiming that their cancers, while serious, have been cured. Fred is talking “remission” which is good, but it also means he still has cancer.

I don’t think it knocks him out of the race, but it makes his VP pick much more important.
Thompson/Hunter, anyone?
