Editorial: No new no-tax pledges

Stop the presses. We have shocking news: Republican legislators oppose tax increases.

Apparently, it's difficult for GOP lawmakers to get media attention this session, so they called a news conference to announce a united front against the blasphemous T-word.

This is news? Not really. Even before state Sen. Tom McClintock of Thousand Oaks had hair on his face, Republican legislators have been blocking tax increases -- thanks to California's two-thirds vote requirement to pass a budget. That two-thirds rule gives legislators in the minority party the ability to stop any new taxation in the supposed cause of stopping excessive spending, even as they try to direct some of that spending to their districts.

yep...and to think how things in Cali could have been so different if everyone who said they were going to vote for McClintock in 2003 had actually done so...

Thank god for the GOP and the two thirds requirement to increase taxes. Keep it up GOP and stand tall.
