P.S.: It would be interesting to see a 200 mph bullet train navigate the Tehachapi Loop.

Wow. This is a late reply (I actually had to get some work done this week!). The Tehachapi Loop is the windiest part of the railroad. The high-speed train will be crawling there! At one point the track runs in a complete circle to achieve the elevation it needs; in another, it goes in and out of four different tunnels that were blasted into sheer California granite. Now that you mention it, I’ve seen many freight trains but never a passenger train.
