African-American rap artists refer to Black women as "hos" as a matter of course. While it does not make what Imus did right, the Black community should not be surprised that Imus eventually trotted out this offensive term as well.

When any community lets its neighborhood go downhill (e.g. broken windows, trash all over the place), it shows that they don't care about their neighborhood. They should therefore not be surprised when "visitors" like Imus litter and don't clean up after their dogs; they are just taking their cue from the state of the neighborhood. The offensive lyrics of some rap music represent the state of the neighborhood.

200 years ago, a man who called a decent woman a whore would be called out--challenged to a duel--by any of her friends who called himself a gentleman. (Andrew Jackson killed a man in a duel, and was seriously wounded himself, because the man accused Rachel Jackson of bigamy.) We have yet to see Sharpton or Jesse "Hymietown" Jackson denounce the rappers who are calling Black women whores. It is hard to believe that their outrage over Imus' use of the term is anything more than a self-serving act.

My assessment stands. Except maybe you can change “hack” to “jerk”.

In this PC world what made Imus think he could say “nappy headed ho’s” and get away with it?

What made him think it would be overlooked?

Rap and Hip Hop music say those words all the time with no penalty.

Imus calls the Rutgers women's basketball team "Nappy-headed ho's" and the country's on the verge of anarchy.

Stevie Wonder calls himself a "nappy headed boy" and people tap their feet to the rhythm.

Rush limbaugh calls Barack Obama a "halfrican" and everyone yawns.

I don't understand.

Okay Sharpton, you have had more than your 15 minutes of fame. Him and his kind just look for stuff to get on the soapbox and complain about. Someone else said it in a comment about the Rappers that use terms like Imus did and worse. You don’t see Sharpton saying anything about that though. What a friggin hypocrite. I cant stand Imus either but if your gonna call him out then start calling the Rappers out who put this out on the radio on a daily basis. Be fair and not selective because a white man said it. This whole thing disgusts me as much as Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do. They are too ignorant to take seriously.
