...Its been said by many including me, that America is experiencing a nationwide epidemic of Attention Deficit Disorder. ..
But in watching the Fred Thompson phenomenon develop, I am coming to a different opinion, one that might explain the clear political apathy of the average American voter and the current Fred Thompson fever all in one shot...
.. The problem is looking more like a nationwide state of extreme political boredom. A case of a nation bored into a trance, or a deep slumber by a nauseatingly boring group of over-stuffed politically correct and morally bankrupt blowhards saying nothing..
..Eventually, it all just blurs together to make one big boring indistinguishable white noise and nobody is listening anymore. Why should they? Nobodys saying anything...
..And that my friends, is what people like about former two term, then back to the real world, plain spoken Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson. I mean aside from the fact the he is a professionally trained orator capable of completing a sentence using only his own thoughts and no old cue cards from any political party campaign guru...
..Fred Thompson stands out in the crowd like a real live candidate with a mind of his own, even when trying not to slip up and accidentally agree to run for president. And as long as he retains his traditional irreverence for Washington nonsense, he will continue to be popular among voters who can very much relate to that uncommonly outspoken irreverence....
...And thats why folks all over this nation are sitting on their wallets waiting to see if Fred will answer the peoples call before committing a penny to the 08 political circus already center stage and raging out of control, a year before the primaries are even supposed to begin...

Because there is .. LOL. Can you imagine the war rooms, hunting, Lexis-Nexis-ing, googling, yahooing, National Archiving ....digging 24/7 .. PI's scratching, bribing, sneaking, garbage canning, Tennessee-ing, IRS-ing, ... looking for dirt.
Fred's giving a lot of folks the big time willies, and soon they might just have a bad case of hives. And I LOVE IT!
Go, Fred !
First, it would harm the chances of their LIBERAL dream candidate,,,,,
and second, it would provide a CONSERVATIVE that the base could actually rally around!!
It no wonder that a few of the Rudy-Apologists have already begun dismissing a conservative like Fred--who just might threaten their LIBERAL wet-dream!!
It’s that frog and the slow boil cliche, actually. We are not even really noticing that our party and our principles are being stolen out from under our nose. We have to be very cautious, very, to not lose site of WHO we are...or we will wake up one day, look in the mirror and see...them. We will have become them without even noticing.
As the Gipper so eloquently stated,
"So, it was our Republican Party that gave me a political home. When I signed up for duty, I didn't have to check my principles at the door. And I soon found out that the desire for victory did not overcome our devotion to ideals".
--Ronald Reagan remarks at the Republican National Convention in New Orleans, August 15, 1988.
Many of the JulieAnnie apologists will be checking their principles at the door!!!!
What I’m honestly curious about is why they are so keen on seeing him run. Is it respect for his performance during 9/11? Is it the way he handled New York’s crime mess? If so, well...he has my admiration there, too. He does.
But I do not want him in the White House. Quite honestly, he shouldn’t have an R after his name at all.
But as head of our Party and Country? NO WAY!! The last thing in the world we need is a pro-abortion, 'gun grabbing', big government authoritarian litigation-loving NY lawyer who also is a gay rights CRUSADER and believes in amnesty,,,and who's personal TRAIN WRECK of a life almost makes Bill Clinton look like a good, decent husband and loving family man!!
If you want to change the Republican Party to something 'much less',,,,JulieAnnie is JUST THE MAN FOR THE JOB!!
It’s that gun grabbing that wouldn’t make me comfortable seeing him as AG!
JulieAnnie has said, "He UNDERSTANDS the Second Amendment." What a pathetic PARSING of words--even Bill Clinton would 'roll his eyes' at a pathetic statement like that!
We don't need someone who UNDERSTANDS it,,,,we needs someone who SUPPORTS IT!!!
JulieAnnie would destroy the Republican Party as we know it. You would end up with the liberal DREAM of two parties--BOTH to the left-of-center.
Yep, that’s like saying satan believes in Jesus. You bet he does! That doesn’t mean he likes it!
AH! You scared me! (I just switched to DSL.)
I'd gladly give Mr. Thompson the benefit of the doubt, especially when he declares his candidacy. But quoting Reagan on this forum is a little overkill right now. The conservative movement should fervently pray for another Ronald Reagan. His conservatism didn't divide our country, he united it. He persuaded non-conservatives to support him, always with eloquence and respect. Sadly, no one on the scene today can approach him in that regard. He spoke often of two things: ending communism, and shrinking government, ideas that resonated with everyday folks. Although a staunch conservative, he was respected because people knew these were his deeply held beliefs. If Fred Thompson is a conservative in the mold of Ronald Reagan, I'm thinking it would have been evident by now. That said, if he declares his candidacy and wins the nomination, I'll support him. I just wish people on this forum don't put him forth as the second-coming. Conservatives may have a long road to the White House this time around. If it's true that nobody but a liberal is passionate about liberalism, the same is true for conservatives.
Why do you think he’s not like that? What is it that gives you the impression he is not quite like Reagan? Honestly asking, not baiting. He reminds me quite a bit of the late President.
Reference my support for Thompson over Guiliani--Thompson is a conservative (much, much, MUCH closer to Reagan's policies)--while Guiliani isn't even close.
I feel strongly that the Republican Party has GOT to be unified to win in '08--and a liberal will just NOT do that. A liberal like Guiliani will do just the opposite--SPLIT THE PARTY WIDE OPEN.
Maybe Guiliani can win without the conservative base....we'll see. My my bet is he cannot do it without the energy, enthusiasm, passion, and volunteer time and effort that the traditional base provides!!!
To sum up, if he wins.....the Republican Party ceases to exist as we know it. That is NOT something I would call a victory.
JulieAnnie would be a disaster for the Party--and the country (as the leftward movement would be accelerated). No thanks.
(okay, so this is a Fred Thompson character, but I still like the quote.)
He’s got the rest of the pack beat hands down. And he’s got presence. He is a prime candidate.
That is an opinion I can back 100%. I just now asked the FReeper for the source as I’m hoping it is accurate.
I remember hearing him say that, yes.
A liberal like JulieAnnie (who's positions are MOSTLY THE OPPOSITE of what the conservative base stand for--not to mention his TRAIN WRECK) CANNOT. He would DIVIDE the Party like never before.
If you want a united, enthusiastic, passionate, enegized Party to TURN OUT THE VOTE....you will have to have a conservative. JulieAnnie isn't even close.
So...what do you suppose the Rudy supporters are seeing in their candidate?
