Because he's been in public life for some time, and has not made a name for himself politically, other than "conservative US Senator." He hasn't made the kind of impression on people that a statesman would make. In Reagan's case, that speech really summed up everything he believed in. He was a passionate conservative, but always gracious. He criticized his opponents skillfully, and it never sounded like sour grapes. He made an impression back when few were listening. As his political career evolved, everything he accomplished involved the same themes - the ones he spoke of in '64. Reagan's shoes are impossible to fill. But if Thompson becomes the nominee, we'll see if he has the chops to rise and become a statesman. IMTHO
Yeah, man. Coming of age, indeed. I didn't fully appreciate him until the latter half of term #2. I cried during his farewell speech. Three things made me a Republican: Ronald Reagan, 2 semesters of economics, and reading the WSJ editorial page every day for 10 years.
It’s at the Reagan Library. If you choose to visit Simi Valley. Take the 118 to Madera Road South. You’ll see flags guiding you up the valley to the top. It has become a VERY GREAT BIG museaum now. Popular for dates. Mine wanted to get to RR’s F-14 parked outside after spending 5 hours there. Park before 10AM.
Can you imagine the war rooms, hunting, Lexis-Nexis-ing, googling, yahooing, National Archiving ....digging 24/7 .. PI’s scratching, bribing, sneaking, garbage canning, Tennessee-ing, IRS-ing, ... looking for dirt
I feel like I’m watching a play!
“Many many conservatives have yet to hear the “WHOLE STORY” about Rudy”
Thats exactly right, I was talking to my mom a few weekends ago and asked her who she was going to vote for, and she said Rudy. So then I told her about his stances on abortion and a few other things, and she just looked at me with a disturbed look and said, “I hadn’t heard that...”
My mom is also a Hannity listener groupie, and all he seems to do is put Rudy in a good light, so thats why she might also had support of him.
You bet they are digging!! Heehee.
Run Fred Run!
We just have to keep 'getting the word' out about JulieAnnie!!
Run, Fred, Run!!!
I also told this lady at work who I discuss politics with all the time about Fred, and she was like, “I really hope he runs, I can’t stand any of the front runners, they are all a bunch of Rino’s I fear.”
She is obviously a very wise person....as are you!!!!
I also saw a video on youtube today where Rudy talks about tax cuts being a disaster.
lol, thanks!
This is going to be the psychodrama of all time .. LOL.
Very well said.
For any of you who haven’t had the time yet- if you go here:

That is the link at National Review Online with all Fred’s recent pieces for Paul Harvey’s slot.
you can ALSO click to listen to them:) Highly recommended!
I’m a Hannity listener, and you’re right about his take on Rudy.
I must have missed it..........have he or Rush commented on Thompson? Just curious.
Good links .. thank you!
I can’t wait .. I can’t wait ... I can’t wait ... to see what he says and does . . LOL.

Some more on Fred, some of the time
Tennessee blogger Phil Ayres: An article this morning in the Wall Street Journal discusses the Tennessee Mafia: Baker, Alexander, Thompson, and Frist.
Ted Welch has been instrumental in the successful political careers of all 4 of these men. However, the article goes on to discuss how Welch is already committed to Romney. Why? Because FRED HAS WAITED TO (sic) DAMN LONG.
No he hasn’t. It’s called free media, and Thompson is getting a ton of it. You can’t buy this kind of exposure.
Case in point: But Mr. Thompson has some free media cards to play so long as he is a non-candidate.
On May 4, he will travel to Orange County, California to speak at the prestigious Lincoln Club, the political dinner group that has traditionally hosted GOP presidential candidates in what is often called “Reagan Country.”
That same night, Mr. Thompson will join Jay Leno on his “Tonight Show” set for an interview that no doubt will touch on his presidential prospects.
But the ultimate in free media exposure will come later in May when HBO Films will offer repeat showings of a new movie, “Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee,” based on the classic Dee Brown book depicting the 1890 massacre of Indians in South Dakota.
The film features a prologue that depicts happier times in the 1870s when federal Indian policy was more enlightened. Key scenes take place in the Oval Office of President U.S. Grant, played by none other than Fred Thompson, on loan from his role as a prosecutor on NBC’s “Law & Order.”
Tennessee blogger A.C. Kleinheider: I don’t see these things changing anytime soon. And as long as Fred keeps flirting, his shadow will continue to colour the race.
It is not for certain he will run, but if he does, the announcement will not come soon. He will wait because it doesn’t hurt him to wait.
Tennessee blogger Bob Krumm: Im actually surprised that Fred didnt perform better among Tennessee GOP voters; I half expect that he could get 45% of the Democratic vote in the Volunteer State. Still, its a good showing for someone who isnt even a candidate.
Another TN blogger on another issue with Fred: John Norris Brown: Read the whole entry. Its been causing quite a buzz in the blogosphere.
But count me among those that arent impressed.
Thompsons claim that the Iranian people are not anti-Western is true, which makes his call for sanctions confusing. Who does Thompson think will be harmed more by such sanctions - Ahmadinejad and the mullahs, or the (often pro-Western) people of Iran? Who suffered more from the sanctions on Iraq, Saddam Hussein or the Iraqi people?
Also, Adam Groves has a Tennessee poll.

I think I have heard that Thompson has been on Hannity before, but I missed it as well...I don’t think he was on for very long though. Hannity is on while I work, so I only get to listen to him from 5 till 6.
Also Rush has mentioned Thompson in passing a few times. I know the Monday after the Wallace interview Rush talked a lot about him, and a few days after, but since then hasn’t said a whole lot.
Neither have really got into any substance on Thompson though. From what I have heard.
Keep in mind - while the others are already raising funds, they are also spending funds, mostly to compete against a man who has not even agreed to enter the race yet… Ain’t that a hoot?
