The Fred Thompson Factor: Inspiring the American Voter
The National Ledger ^ | 04/10/07 | JB Williams

Posted on 04/10/2007 5:00:14 PM PDT by SE Mom

...It’s been said by many including me, that America is experiencing a nationwide epidemic of Attention Deficit Disorder. ..

But in watching the Fred Thompson phenomenon develop, I am coming to a different opinion, one that might explain the clear political apathy of the average American voter and the current Fred Thompson fever all in one shot...

.. The problem is looking more like a nationwide state of extreme political boredom. A case of a nation bored into a trance, or a deep slumber by a nauseatingly boring group of over-stuffed politically correct and morally bankrupt blowhards saying nothing..

..Eventually, it all just blurs together to make one big boring indistinguishable white noise and nobody is listening anymore. Why should they? Nobody’s saying anything...

..And that my friends, is what people like about former two term, then back to the real world, plain spoken Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson. I mean aside from the fact the he is a professionally trained orator capable of completing a sentence using only his own thoughts and no old cue cards from any political party campaign guru...

..Fred Thompson stands out in the crowd like a real live candidate with a mind of his own, even when trying not to slip up and accidentally agree to run for president. And as long as he retains his traditional irreverence for Washington nonsense, he will continue to be popular among voters who can very much relate to that uncommonly outspoken irreverence....

...And that’s why folks all over this nation are sitting on their wallets waiting to see if Fred will answer the people’s call before committing a penny to the ’08 political circus already center stage and raging out of control, a year before the primaries are even supposed to begin...

Do you recall where you heard that? Granted Fred is an exceptional speaker but a message as boiled down and to the point as that is one people will remember. Its a message a lot of folks will support - both Dems and us Conservatives.
I live here in Boston so as you can imagine there is no shortage of moonbats. I have yet to speak to one who has supported any type of amnesty for illegals or even a so called ‘ guest workers ‘ program. Not one. In fact more than a few advocated tossing them all out.

Why do you think he’s not like that? What is it that gives you the impression he is not quite like Reagan? Honestly asking, not baiting. He reminds me quite a bit of the late President.

Well, in 1964, long before he became president, he gave a little speech:

Address on behalf of Senator Barry Goldwater - Rendezvous with Destiny October 27, 1964

The entire 4,626 words can be read at: www.reaganfoundation.org (sorry, I did not provide link)

The speech defines everything we came to know about him, and it was still early in his political career. Nobody but nobody, reminds me of Reagan.

Thanks, I’ll go and read it! Can you sum up, though, in a nutshell why you don’t think Thompson reminds you of Reagan?

I think a lot of us conservatives were spoiled rotten having come of age with Reagan as president.

They see the 'rock star' and celebrity status that he got from his face time on 9/11. Name recognition and face time normally takes years and years. Rudy got a decade's worth because of 9/11. I give him credit for the 'clean up' afterwards--he did do a good job.

However, that is the ONLY picture of Rudy that the majority of the public has got. Many voters are just recently learning about his far-left liberal positions and his TRAIN WRECK of a personal life. Many many conservatives have yet to hear the "WHOLE STORY" about Rudy. The more discussion about him, the better--to get the whole story out.

Which is why I’m mystified as to why some Freepers are supporting him. I don’t get it.

Freepers should know better than to just look on the surface...and they should know how much is at stake here. I think Rudy showed a lot of leadership after 9/11. But he lacks moral fiber and a clear understanding of right and wrong. I hate to say that, ‘cause I think he is an admirable man in many ways. But he is no conservative, and his political morals are way off.

Some people are never who they appear to be...

“And oftentimes, to win us to our harm,
The instruments of darkness tell us truths
Win us with honest trifles, to betray's
In deepest consequence.”

I actually have that Reagan speech on CD. It was just AWESOME!! No one could communicate like Reagan--his voice was a pleasure to listen to.

Thompson, however, DOES have a very deep and commanding voice (very Presidential), combined with his conservative values and voting record....makes him as close as we will ever get. Certainly a lot closer than a cetain LIBERAL NY lawyer who speaks with a lisp!!!!

Honestly, I'm 47 years old, and grew up in New Jersey. Giuliani was often in the news, putting mob guys away. I moved west in 1990, came back east in 1999. When I visited NYC, it was a different place altogether. Nope, he's not a conservative by any stretch. But he has accomplishments in his public life, and his public statements on the WOT have been consistent - that it's the most challenging issue facing freedom, and we have to win it. I wish he was a believer in smaller government, though I don't think he'd raise tax rates. His social views are, well, liberal. That's a huge issue here, and in other places. I want to be confident that the Republican I vote for will keep us SAFE, and not take more money from hard-working Americans. Thompson is a good conservative, but he was a US senator. That's not a plus in my book, but when he starts making speeches and defining his candidacy, I hope he does a great job. There's nothing wrong with good candidates debating issues and distinguishing themselves from each other. That's why there are primaries.

I have a feeling a lot of Newt supporters are going to jump to Thompson after Newt and Kerry made love on the Global Warming issue today.

I agree with everything you said! However, I feel strongly that it's ridiculous to say that we NEED Rudy (as some of his apologists on here would say) to fight the WOT. President Bush has left behind a very, very FORMIDABLE defense that ANY Republican could benefit from for a long, long time!!

My comments on that topic are on this thread/

It appears that maybe Jake The Goose is the freeper to ask.

To: Doogle

He is very very tough on illegal immigration.

I heard him say: “we can and should stop these illegal immigrants, and don’t tell me it cost us 5 cents more on bananas - I don’t want to hear that”

The man will not be out communicated - if he runs, he will bring new meaning to “straight talk”.

One thing is for sure - if Fred Thompson does run - no one will out-communicate him.

He has that magical ability to turn political subjects into issues of common sense.

i.e. “Illegal immigrants have no right being in the U.S. - and
don’t tell me my bananas are gonna cost me 10 cents more if they are not here”

He will be one formidable candidate.

I loved this line from the article.

Keep in mind - while the others are already raising funds, they are also spending funds, mostly to compete against a man who has not even agreed to enter the race yet… Ain’t that a hoot?

Run Fred Run!!
