Fund raising would not be the issue
We heard from two separate sources today.
As we hear it, a group of Democratic muckety-mucks are trying to persuade entrepreneur extraordinaire, Ben Barnes to challenge Senator John Cornyn in 2008.
A meeting was supposedly held in recent days where supporters pitched Barnes. Dollar amounts for a campaign were discussed. The consensus was that it would take $25 million to do the job and, according to one of our sources, supporters at the meeting committed to $10 million. By himself, Barnes is credited with being able to write a seven-figure check. Besides his own personal wealth, Barnes is one of the national Democrats' leading fund-raisers.

Cornyn would kick Ben Barnes in a landslide....
Wasnt Ben Barnes deeply involved in the Sharpstown scandal?
To: texanyankee
Yeah, I know....Sharpstown was so long ago. It’s over and done with......let’s move on.

Henry Cisneros would be a more formidable foe for Cornyn....name recognition.....
To: texanyankee
Ben Barnes has got to be one of the biggest crooks in Texas. Sharpstown was only the tip of the iceberg.

“Henry Cisneros” is how you say “Bill Clinton” in Spanish.

Good for some laughs.
Ben Barnes, Jiminy Christmas. What’s next, LBJ for Governor ? The rodents in Texas are really digging deep to find fossilized candidates...

Isn’t his name in some madam’s little black book. The man doesn’t have a chance.

Sharpstown was so long ago.
That is what Democrats are banking on. That people will not remember Ben Barnes was a crook!
I find it funny that Democrats in Texas are scrapping the bottom of the barrel to find a candidate for a national office. There is no doubt Barnes is an effective fundraiser. But you have never seen a Democrat candidate for any office in Texas, photographed with Ben Barnes. Because to do so is political suicide with older voters. Younger voters may have no idea who Ben Barnes is, but older voters know he is a crook!
PLEASE, PLEASE....Democrats run Ben Barnes against John Cornyn!

I’m with you:
I’d love to see the Dims collect the $25MM, run Ben Barnes against Cornyn and get waxed!
That’s $25MM that they couldn’t spend on a candidate who had a REAL chance!
