There is enough stupidity in this thing to go around several times, but the fact most in the media keep forgetting is that if they had not made such a sleazy choice of ‘entertainment’ they would not be in this situation to begin with.

If my son were involved he would be pulled out of school until I could teach him a little more about respecting women

That is the one thing I have never understood, in this day of political correctness, where does someone who is suppose to be smart enough to get a college degree come up with the ideal they can hire nude dancers. Most of them were not old enough to drink.

Mixed messages.

On the one hand, there's so much positive publicity and noise in the media about "sexual freedom" etc. and schools, especially "party schools" at best condone this sort of behavior by looking the other way, and at worst actually promote it.

On the other hand, it's a good way to get in trouble quickly.

Even with that said -- and I have minced no words with both my son and my daughter about avoiding compromising situations -- hiring a stripper is not a crime. Stupid, yes, but shouldn't result in a 20-to-life prison term.

The correct attitude would have been to wait until the justice system shook out, then use it as a teaching opportunity for students. Something about how skanky behavior can get you in big trouble and how the sort of people who take their clothes off for money often have other character flaws such as perjuring themselves . . . .

Instead Duke used behavior the university has condoned repeatedly to hang their own students out to dry, probably in an attempt to save the college from the criticisms of the politically correct in the community and on their own faculty.

Don't think much of people "in loco parentis" who think that that title includes selling out the children entrusted to their care . . .

That’s the problem with playing a minor sport. You have to pay. If it had been the basketball team, 3/4 of the cheer-leading squad would volunteer to strip for free.

With respect, your very same logic has been used for years in regards to cases of campus rape. “The girl should have been smart enough not to go alone to the boy’s room”. You wouldn't buy that old chestnut, would you?

In today’s society, like it or nor, many men patronize strippers. I've been to many a strip joint myself, though I've never hired any. It’s legal, part of the “frat” mentality, and happens every weekend without incident all over the nation. Unfortunately these Duke kids ran into a combination of not only a completely unbalanced woman (and don’t give me the all strippers are psychos routine) and a unethical prosecutor in an era of post modern political correctness where white males are always guilty of any racial crime irrespective of the evidence.
