Yeah, but remember, back in the good ol' days of six months ago when another MSNBC talking head named Chrissy Matthews accused white people of being afraid of voting for Harold Ford because he is black? I'm curious as to how long Chrissy was suspended and where was MSNBC's "sensitivity" at the time.
I heard the whole thing too with Imus and his sidekick and while it's pretty hard to hear the whole thing as a joke, this wouldn't be an issue had the professionally race hustler Al Sharpton not gotten involved. MSNBC, rather than risking the ire of Al and his rent-a-mob, launched a preemptive surrender and suspended Imus.

It’s one thing to criticize people for a perceived intolerance, but it’s completely different to make a statement like the one Imus made.
He clearly made “joke” that was racially based and there’s no context involved here.
And Imus was taking heat well before Sharpton got involved.
Everybody who heard it knew it was BAD the second he opened his mouth.
