I do have e-mails out through FReeper channels to folks who were actually in the Reagan administration, so we shall see. If he said his pro abortion legislation was his biggest mistake, that would be as governor, versus the amnesty thing which was as president, which could be the difference.

If you look to his presidential debates, he was especially concerned pre signature of that bill, that employers would be prosecuted, since they were in a position to exploit the worker who had no power to complain. AS you know, prosecution of same, all but disappeared over the 90s.

The biggest problem with your plan is that most employers CAN’T tell which employees are illegal.

I bet you if they were risking $10K per day per illegal, they'd magically figure out a foolproof method of not hiring an illegal. If it hits them in the pocketbook, the deductive power of the human resources department expands exponentially.
