Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!
.
Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and we will try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let us know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,
Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats
And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
A Congressman from Virginia is accepting an At Large seat in Utah in return for supporting a DC seat? No wonder it was confusing.
And I notice they want the DC seat *and* to keep the Delegate Seat. When will they demand 2 Senators???
Yep...right there in the hearing, for all the world to hear...and even Cornyn was really, really hard on Gonzo.
Graham was his usual “I am smarter than anyone” self..and was very snarky towards Gonzo as well.
The ONLY GOP Senator that didn’t come down hard on him was Orrin Hatch.
Can you say Summer Recess????
LOL..that would be perfect...and I want front row seats to watch Leahy and Schumer’s heads to explode.
We’ll chip in to get you a plastic sheet like at Gallagher Concerts so you don’t get messy. LOL
Thanks...I will need it.
Hey 4! :-)
I think I missed most of it. But I am willing to stipulate that Reid screwed up any day of the week! LOL
Yes..I think Reid screwed up....and I didn’t know until I saw Brit’s show..that he tried to make up for it on the Senate floor by saying something about how the “war WILL be lost, if Pres. Bush doesn’t listen to their strategy”..
However, that is WORSE..because to follow their strategy it so surrender...which does NOT equal a win.
Plus, I think he messed up because he didn’t just say that HE thinks the war is lost...he said he is pretty sure that the Sec. of State, and the Sec. fo Defense feel the SAME WAY...then said that he isn’t sure about the POTUS...BLECH.
My radio source let me today..so I missed some of the last part of the hearing of Gonzo’s.
I just heard on the radio news...that Gonzo actually told either Schumer or Leahy, or all of them...that it was up to THEM to prove wrongdoing.
I didn’t hear that this afternoon...but I am glad he said it...because afterward, even Schumer told the press that there is NO smoking gun.
Also...I saw a blurb on the bottom of the screen during Sissy Chrissy’s show..that said that “The White House says they are pleased with how today’s hearing went”...
Oh..please don’t say that is true....ugh
I’ve always wondered how people like Hillary speak in such polarized ways. On the one hand using and believing the verbiage of socialism and the far left. And at the same time pouring out the poll-tested pablum for the public.
Looks like Reid can’t quite keep his polar personalities under control.
My husband and I taught our kids from a young age to tell the truth, mostly because it is so much easier to keep track! LOL
Is there a ping list for these threads?
If so, I would like to be on it.
LOL...It only took me a couple of times, getting caught telling whopper lies..and suffering the consequences, for me to realize how much easier it is to tell the truth..
I never could understand how my Mother and Father would “find out”....but, now that I am a Mom, I know it is the 6th sense that comes with being a Mom..and my kids, even today, in their late 20’s, are amazed when I catch them in “lies”.
NOW..they don’t really LIE, per se....it is one of those things where my son calls and says, “Hi Mom...how is everything going?”
And I say, “Fine, so what’s up?”...and he says, “Oh, nothing...just thought I would call”....
Now..I COULD stop the conversation right there..KNOWING that there really IS something he is calling about...but, I play along.
“Oh, well...not much going on here...just hanging out on my favorite website with my Freeper friends....how is kaybugs...she wouldn’t be just dying to spend the night with her ole Nama, would she?”
“LOL...MOM, why do you ask that? okay...yes, can you babysit tonight?”
I have had that same conversation a HUNDRED times..and they never, ever admit that they are calling for a reason...LOL
Good point.
I think that Reid is SO excited about being Senate Majority Leader..that he thinks he has more power than he really does....so he lets his brag get ahead of his fact.
