It's a tug-of-war that's emerging at other black schools, where students say outdated rules and homophobia block them from forming the gay campus voice common at majority white institutions.
But some students here see more than a conservative approach to the regulations. They, and many others at the nation's more than 100 historically black colleges and universities, say that a broader suspicion of homosexuality keeps gays in the shadows at these tradition-heavy schools
But just as gay students can rightfully request campus inclusion, so too can black college administrators deny it, argued the Rev. William Owens, an HBCU graduate and head of the Coalition of African-American Pastors in Memphis, Tenn.
"They can say 'no' and I don't think they have to give a lot of reasons," said Owens, who joined other black pastors worried that, along with dismal marriage rates, socially accepted homosexuality "is a threat to the black family."

Having over 60% of your population with a felony case pending, serving time in jail, or being on parole isn't good, either. Seriously, it's a situation where the average person is active somewhere in the criminal justice system. It used to be a stigma for your daughter to be dating a convicted felon. Now it's normal.
My heart bleeds for them. I thought this was handled well with the fruit in Animal House.
Why don’t gay blacks go to the Ivy league colleges instead? The ivy leaguers go out of their way to suck up to this kind of double-minority.

This is totally inaccurate and false. It is impossible for Blacks to be prejudiced or racists.
One of the probable causes of homosexuality is broken families and absent fathers. That situation is all too common in the black community, and it has resulted in a fair number of black homosexuals.
And, no, it is not helpful to blacks or to any other group.

What is actually funny, is that Blacks who are in college, or churchgoers, are often MORE conservative than their White counterparts...yet REFUSE to stop voting for gay-loving, anti-Christian, race-baiting poverty pimps.

Though these things may be true, they don’t really relate to what this story is trying to put across. These guys at the colleges are trying to do the right thing, in however small a way. We should be applauding them, not crabbing about somethig else.

I keep saying there is a opportunity to reach out to and bring these African-Americans into the conservative smaller government camp.
