Last week we had bluebonnets with icicles dripping off.

I hope that storm calms down a bit before it reaches you, it was a dilly.

WEATHER SCARE: A severe weather threat fizzled into nothing more than heavy rain at Texas Motor Speedway, but not before fans scattered for whatever cover they could find.

``We grabbed our butts and grabbed a beer,’’ said 44-year-old Jay Newsom of the Fort Worth suburb of Watauga. Newsom was part of a group in two RVs on the infield.

Thousands scrambled for tunnels, bathrooms and other covered areas. Track officials had to implement a severe weather plan for the first time, opening covered lobby areas usually reserved for suite holders and letting fans on the infield go to indoor facilities at the adjacent dirt track.

The crowd at the time of the storm was estimated at 35,000.

When Newsom and several family members encountered an overflow bathroom, they settled in with a group of firefighters in another covered area.

Don Jordan, 32, of the Dallas suburb of Midlothian, said fans made the best of it.

``They were doing the wave and everything else in the bathroom,’’ he said.
