That is what we thought we were getting in W. The jon carey alternative was unpalatable, and I, for one, believed W. was God sent. I don't pretend to know WHY he has performed as he has as President, but am feeling let down by some of the inexplicable decisions he has made.

It ia also a matter of getting the vote out for our side. If the primary gets nasty, with candidates trashing each other, they will be cutting their own throats and ours along with them.

The republicans need to get over the "it's HIS turn" thinking that gave us the Dole candidacy...by that logic it will be McCain, and he will lose in a landslide.

I also believe that Mitt will cause a lot of evangelicals to throw their hands up just stay home. The Mitt believers on this forum blithely assume that won't be a factor, and also ignore his flip flopping.

At this point, it looks like Fred Thompson is gaining ground, and it is getting late in the game for anyone else to jump in.

Acccording to INTRADE - where people bet real money instead of gabby opinions - Thompson is now second behind Giuliani...

I am liking Romney more all the time, and think Fred Thompson is more old looking than Bob Dole, and when he substitutes for Paul Harvey he puts me to sleep, which is bad since I am driving when he comes on the Air. I liked Reagan’s Ideas, not that he played strong characters in the Movies. I do not want this Thread to end up a Rudy, Mitt,Fred, Bashing type thread, that should be on a different one.

None of us are completely happy with what we got from GW,his lack of stance on the border, budget and constant failing to stand up for himself and others when necessary are all facts that continue to plague us no end.

From my standpoint I use these acts about him to help choose another yet stronger conservative who will be even more strident in the areas we are now weak in.

We have several conservatives that could fill the bill from Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter and others. Are any of them perfect, probably not and as you say the key is not to destroy ourselves or even provide ammo to the rats who will surely use everything we do provide against us sooner or sooner.

Having said all that and realizing we need a conservative as our candidate we also have to juggle the fact that we don't want the Dems getting in at the top for any reason whatsoever.

Were we to find ourselves in a position of having a dem potus and congress the future of the country for the next few years would be bleak indeed.
