Central Intelligence Agency has hired a Pakistani terrorist group that has carried out a series of terrorist attacks inside Iran. The group, called Jundullah, has carried out raids, resulting in the deaths or kidnapping of Iranian intelligence and military officers. ABC cited Pakistani government sources as saying the secret campaign against Iran was on the agenda when Vice President Dick Cheney met with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf in February...

As long as it keeps the Iran ragheads looking over their shoulders, why not suggest there are three or four “teams” ?

It seems the Pakistani government is on the record denying and condemning the ABC report as false. Brian Ross who is the original source also now has the denial at:http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/04/pakistan_denoun.html
Personally I find it amazing that ABC is even bothering to print the denial. Of course it won’t get the air time and if it is mentioned on the air it will be heavily discounted and as you can see at the end ABC stands by its original reporting.

“The Pakistani government had sharp words Wednesday for an ABC News report detailing U.S. and Pakistani support for an Iranian tribal militant group working to destabilize its country’s government.

Calling the report “tendentious” and an “absurd and sinister insinuation,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the Pakistani government “will never allow its territory for carrying out acts of terrorism and violence against any country.”

“We condemn any attempt to create misgivings between the two brotherly countries,” the statement read.

The story, citing Pakistani and U.S. intelligence sources, said the Iranian guerrilla group known as “Jundullah” operates out of the Baluchistan province of Pakistan with the advice and encouragement of American officials and has taken responsibility for the kidnapping and murder of several Iranian officials. The report appeared on ABC News’ The Blotter, “World News” and “Nightline” earlier this week.

For its part, the Iranian government appeared to embrace ABC News’ reporting that the United States was backing anti-government forces in its country. “There is no doubt in our minds that the United States spares no effort to put pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Gholamali Haddadadel, speaker of the Iranian parliament, on Thursday, in response to the story.

But he too played down the notion of any involvement by its neighbor, Pakistan, in the U.S. effort. “We don’t have any reason to believe that the military establishment in Pakistan is also supporting such militants groups,” Haddadadel said via an interpreter, according to Reuters.

On Thursday, a spokesman for the Pakistani military also disputed the ABC News report in an interview with ABC News. “It is totally untrue to say our intelligence agencies have anything to do with Jundullah,” said General Wahid Arshad, Pakistan’s chief military spokesman. “We know of the man (Jundullah leader Abd el Malik Regi) quoted in your story, and he is nothing more than a criminal and a drug dealer.”

But according to ABC News consultant Alexis Debat, who just returned from the region, Pakistani intelligence recently facilitated the payment of $1.3 million by Iran to Jundullah to obtain the release of kidnapped Iranian border guards, “They (the Iranians) are escorted by Pakistani intelligence into Pakistan to meet with Jundullah officials and probably Regi himself to make the exchange to give the money and get the hostages back. So Pakistani intelligence in many ways is involved in that.”

ABC News stands by its reporting on this story.”

You are soooo naive. We are now supporting clerics who are elected politicos in Iraq with known and demonstrable terrorist ties.

I am rapidly coming to the opinion that this thing is so fubar-ed that the only option is to declare victory and get out, so that they can go back to happily murdering each other the way they have for the last 3000 years or so.

Maybe this Pakistani terror group could knock off a few ABC executives.

One of these days, there will be a "sting" operation to unmask the source of leaks in Washington, and it cannot happen soon enough. It's rather a simple matter, really; you identify four or five likely suspects and feed them each a similar story, but each one with a distinctive character or twist, and then see which variation gets reported, and by whom. Then you sit the guilty party down in a dark room and tell them the bad news; preferably with a sidearm visible. Unless of course all variations make the evening news, in which case you've got a bigger problem. And we just might.

It’s nice to know ABC is still on the job telling the enemy the name of the group. It’s a good thing they don’t know where the group is.

If a government’s testing, it’s the Iranian government. They’ve been griping about this for a couple of days.

A mistake.

I somehow sent this in error to you...sir/madame.

(love that little gendersensitivity!...as if I might be terribly offended if you missed.)

I hope you will survive this tragic mistake.
