Doesn’t matter. They’ll get a free ride.

Yeah, that’s right.

And he knows that as soon as he announces that the media will start tossing what he called ‘spitballs’ at him.

That’s why he’s waiting.

We have already seen what the supporters of John Guliomney will smear FDT with.

But it will be real interesting to see what the supporters of Her Royal Clintoness will say and do about FDT.

Here’s a guess, they will link him with some right-wing hate group that is racist or anti-semetic or misogynistic. Or maybe they will find FDT once belonged to a group that has a member that is related to a person that plays golf with the father of a confederate flag waving manager of a club that was formerly whites-only and no-joooos allowed?

It will be fun to see what they come up with.

That 'Rudy is the only one that can beat Hillary' is so old and tired. Let's see now. Relentless, daily pimping of Rudy on this conservative site has him all the way up to 10% or so support in the FR poll.

I understand that you think Guiliani is superior to other candidates and, of course, that is what freedom is all about. However, you really need to accept the fact that this forum is not, overall, going to swoon over him.

Of the declared candidates, Rudy is the only one who beats Hillary in the polls, and has the potential to bring in the Reagan Democrats at this juncture. I deal with the real. If Fred Thomspon runs, we’ll see how that goes. Romney’s attractive and I hope he catches fire.We need a minimum of two viable candidiates. Rudy has his fans here, but certainly many are against him. I will say that the behavior of many in the anti-Rudy crowd is appalling. These people act like 16-year-old hooligans.

*** Meanwhile, the one candidate who polls well, state-wise and nationally, who at least is being forthright about his views, is being treated with contempt here by many. ****

That's because said candidate is a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT running under the banner of the GOP out of shear convenience. And his 'forthrightness on his views' are the views of DNC Platform. So that 'contempt', is rightly deserved.

BTW, that 'one candidate' is getting CREAMED by Hilary in his home state by 12% (and her lead keeps increasing). That's not exactly 'polling well'. And lest we forget we still have the Electoral College, so any 'national poll' is pretty meaningless. It's the states that matter. And no POTUS has won without carrying his home state, ask President Gore.

And I don't give a rat's a$$ about Rudy beating Hill in NJ. Jersey has 15 EVs - New York 31. Without NY he's a goner.

And so you think Fred Thompson, or Mitt Romney, or Duncan Hunter (snicker) would beat Hillary in NY????

If two NY-based pols run, the more liberal one will win. And that's Hlllary, as the polls show.

Rudy is polling well in the South and in CA. That will offset NY.

Apparently you missed the poll last week where an undeclared Thompson was beating Hillary. Next talking point, please...

There is appalling behavior on both sides of the Rudy issue. Then, I would not expect to be treated with all due courtesy if I went onto a liberal website and 24/7 pushed a very conservative candidate. Someone should be able to bring up a candidate and have a discussion, but to relentlessly promote a candidate clearly not supported by the members of the site is just plain taunting.

I'm still trying to listen to all of the candidates and weigh their words and deeds. Personally, I can't identify with anyone who is 110% behind any one candidate immediately after they announce considering a run, and before all possible candidates have entered the fray. But that's just me.

I couldn’t agree with you more!

ANYONE who has taken the time to listen to Fred’s pieces (or read them) on NRO can’t help but realize the ability he has to take complex issues and make them easily understood.

He resonates.

Sorry we aren't as adult as you and the rest of the Rudy people. I guess my nose just doesn't go as high in the air as yours does.

Rudy’s polling in the South is the classic example of a false alternative. If he is the nominee of the Republican party, there will be a social conservative third party candidate, who will draw a minimum of 10-20% of the vote. If that happens, every state in the south will be in play.

The last time the Republican Party broke faith with one of its core constituencies was in 1992, when the first President Bush raised taxes, violating another conservative nostrum and his campaign pledge of 1988. That led to Perot, which led to Clinton.

I bear Rudy no ill will. But, in choosing their nominee in 2008, Republicans would do well to heed the admonitions of the Spanish philosopher, Santayana, “Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it.”

Agreed. I think Rudy and Fred can be the other's running mate.

I don't particularly WANT Giuliani as Thompson's running mate if Thompson wins, but do think he's the most likely. Right now, I think the most likely tickets are Giuliani/Romney if Fred doesn't run, and Thompson/Giuliani if he does.
