[MS-13]Gang linked to Tri-State shooting

Three men are arrested in Nashville for a drive by shooting in Huntingburg last August.

Huntingburg Police say the three Hispanic males face a list of federal charges as well because they're associated with a very violent gang.

Huntingburg Police worked with federal authorities and a special gang unit with the Nashville Metro Police Department in Tennessee.

The three members did not injure anyone during the drive-by shooting. But they're facing serious charges because of their activity with the violent gang Mara Salvatruchas.

At 3rd and Geiger Streets in Huntingburg three male members of the Mara Salvatruchas or MS-13 fired shots at four other men sitting on the curb last August.

Huntingburg Police say the three Hispanic gang members felt disrespected by them. No one was injured, but police say Escolastico Serrano, Omar Hirbin Gomez, and Francisco Dago Mendez are facing federal charges under the Rico Act.

As unusual as this sounds, Sheriff Terry Tanner says this isn't the first Dubois County has heard of organized crime,"Back about five or six years ago with a drive-by shooting actually a homicide in Huntingburg that was our first exposure to the MS-13."

Since learning that there are gangs in Dubois County, the Sheriff's department has had in-service training for its deputies to learn more about those gangs.

Most MS-13 members come from South America to American cities, even Huntingburg.

Like many of its members, police say these three have been involved in murder, attempted murder and intimidating witnesses which is why they were charged federally under the Rico Act.

Resident Kim Jarding says she is unfamiliar with this kind of activity, "That's a shock that's a surprise. To hear something like that in a community like this."

Huntingburg Police say MS-13's presence isn't quite a surprise anymore. Sheriff Tanner says there's no real way to control what enters the community, only ways to be aware of what's out there, "And hopefully we can pick up on signs and prevent that organization of getting a foothold here in the county."

Police say these three men are not from Huntingburg, but police Chief Ron Drew says there have been members in the area. The three are in Nashville now, and could face up to life in prison for all of those charges.

I have seen federal numbers for illegals held in jail ranging from 19.3% to 27% of the federal prison population. Here's a sampling of USA cities wanted for murder. What you'll see is that in big USA cities like LA or NYC most of the murderers are Hispanic. Unknown are the % of illegals. In smaller cities the FBI will post the nationalities of the murderers. About 25% of the most wanted are illegals wanted for murder. This number agrees with the percentage of illegals incarcerated in federal prisons. +-25%

Pictures of top 10 most wanted in LA. Up until recent stories about crime in LA posted by the LA Times--the pictures included the nationality of the murderers. They were all foreign nationals and mostly Mexican.

There are currently no exact numbers on the number of Americans killed by illegals. Part of the reason is that the government deliberately obscures the number. I talked on the phone with the head of statistics for the US Bureau of Prisons. He said his office wasn't allowed to publish the number of illegal alien murderers. Rather they were forced to put legal and non legal residents in the same category. I talked to ICE. They put out detailed numbers on illegal child molestors. However, they put out nothing on illegal murderers.

Part of the reason for the silence on the matter is that there is evidence to suggest that most Americans being killed by illegals are black--as is the suggestion in this LA Times Article.

All that said, it could be argued that if you include the number of illegals in state and local prisons the number of illegals in jail shrinks to 6% of the total prison population. Never the less if you multiply 16692 (the number of americans murdered in 2005) * .06 (illegal alien percent of total prison population) * 4 (the number of years the US has been in Iraq). The result is that more americans (4006) have been killed by illegals than have been killed in the Iraq war.

This point needs to be hammered home. Just as the liberals have hammered home the point about americans killed in Iraq.
